….. juuuuust waiting for the final ratings on The Name of the Doctor and I will update my geeky ratings spreadsheet for you guys! (But fwiw, I’m 99% sure those were the WORST finale overnights in NuWho history).

In the meantime, this is interesting. People have been super-hyping ‘DW is so popular in the US now ommggggggggggg’ for a while. BBCA ( Read more... )

2 million huh? Last time I saw ratings for Aust, it was about 600,000. I think that was Hide. BUt population difference here. We have 23 million and 600,000 for a show like Doctor Who isn't actually terrible.

We have about 314 million people in the USA .... so if we were to proportionally have YOUR ratings, we would have about 8.2 million viewers. If you were to have OUR ratings, you would have about 145,000 viewers.

Thus my amusement XD

Glad you did the maths, I was too lazy, but figured you'd get my point. Somehow it doesn't seem like it's doing that brilliantly over there... Whoops.

I still assume Moffat's to blame.

Yeah I was actually really surprised. To hear all the crowing from the stans, I woulda thought at LEAST twice that number, minimum.

Yeah, I saw a few articles of the sort commenting on how DW had taken off in the US (which isn't to say that it hasn't garnered fans and viewers but the language used would imply a lot more) but in terms of raw viewership, 2 million seems low compared to shows like Game of Thrones or The Walking Dead which pull a lot more viewers.

But it's hard to account for the whole cable aspect of it (I'm not sure at all where BBCA falls in terms of cable packaging) and that I feel like a lot of the viewers in the US rely on the internet for actual viewing as opposed to BBCA (see the case with GoT as well).

BBCA have only released the ratings numbers for one episode of S7? I wonder what they are trying to hide? If everything is hunky dory show us the numbers.

FYI: DirecTV includes BBCAmerica in their most basic package in my area. HBO is certainly not part of that package.

PS: 2 million in the entire US? You're kidding, right?

Yeesh. I know you need cable to watch it, but by comparison Elementary pulls in about 10 million an episode, and I think that's not even counting their online viewers, which is a huge chunk.

Maybe adding more timeloops will solve everything.

I bought s7 on itunes because I don't have cable.

I watch all my other shows for free -- SPN from broadcast (I have rabbit ears and the decoder box) and Elementary either broadcast or on the CBS internet.

The thing I am puzzled about is why there is so little material reaching this country in terms of the 50th. Like I was just in Books a Million and I couldn't find any kind of magazine or book related to it. Will there be anything at Barnes and Noble if I make the trek?
