Re: Writing. I'm hardly one to say as I've been very!!! negligent lately. But I'd say give yourself a time frame to write and promise yourself to do oh. ... 1 page finished work at that time?
So if that works out you can add more?
I say one sheet because I know how you are and I know writing with a gazillion kids or adults around is :P
NOT having children? Oh how horribly JACK you are. :P
I love kids too, but I think having more than one would kill me. 8|
My three sisters are bad enough, and I don't even live with them all the time auuuugh.
As for regular writing! I usually write whenever I feel like it, which is maybe once or twice a week, but usually if I close all Internet browser windows and don't sign into messengers, I can just sit and write pretty easily. Even if it's not anything relevant to what I'm working on-- so long as I'm writing something, I count it as a victory!
That's probably a good way to think of it...I have a few plotbunnies hopping around, but I don't know what's actually viable for a novel-type thing, so I might as well just chase whatever suits my fancy for the moment and maybe try re-evaluating a few weeks down the road.
As far as writing goes I think it's better to go for a wordcount than a set time, if only so you can continue writing if you get something good going right when the time is up. or you could just be a crazy person and break your own rules.
It depends a little on what your writing goal is as well - working on a longer story vs just writing something every day. Picking out prompts from fic-comms could be a good idea to boost the latter, even if you're writing original fiction.
I guess my goal is 1) get a longer story going and 2) improve my writing? So maybe I should be looking for challenges more than prompts, though prompts can help too.

That sounds pretty doable! It's easier to work down in the basement where there's less people, too, so I can do that.
