I've sat with 53 individuals with families and mortgages and health care needs over the past 14 months as they've cried or yelled or just had that terrible shocked and/or hopeless expression

Interesting piece you might like in the New York Times today, about a financial firm who's specifically hiring Baby Boomers as their customer service team for people whose investments have tanked. Partly it's because they're more reliable than twenty-somethings, but mostly it's because they're old enough to have some empathy and apparently are good listeners. There's a sad-but-funny quote at the end: "As good as they are, there are some calls that are even too much for this elite team. 'Whenever we get a call from one of the Madoff clients, they’re considered a special group,' Mr. Reymann said. 'We have been told to direct them to' the company’s Madoff team - 'that’s almost like a suicide prevention team.' "
