BWAH!
I was up until 2 a.m., researching the department I'm going to be in. All Carol told me was "global economics," so I googled "economics amgen" and got Global Health Economics, which is the name of the department. I also pulled up a very pissy blog entry from some independent research wonk who'd had a less than sanguine encounter with the head-honchos in said department. Really, it was quite salty (the word "ignorant" was bandied around quite a bit), with the observation that Amgen would be better served firing the bunch of them and starting from scratch.
I'll make up my own mind about them, thanks. In the meantime I just pray they don't hold my fat against me. I'm wrestling with using my cane. Amgen is all about *distance*. It takes a 15 minute bus ride (non-stop) to cover the entire campus. The building I'm gonna be in is in the center of the campus but that doesn't help much for parking. All I can say is thank God for handicapped placards. But back to the cane, if I *don't* use it, I run the risk of jamming my knee up so bad I can't walk at all. (That's pretty much what happened to me last year before I got the placard.) If I do use it, I run the risk of being seen as "handicapped," IOW unable to keep up with the "fast pace." *sigh* I'm overthinking this, aren't I?
Today is Rich's 61st birthday. I told him I'd take him out to dinner, but I so want to bail on this. I have to get back in the work mindset and having to plan a birthday celebration (minor as it is) is messing with that. :(
=break=
Okay, I'm back. Enough sniveling. Rich goes out of his way for MY birthday. (The fact that he even *remembers* it is going out of his way, and he always does.) The least I can do is make a damn reservation, shower, put on some clothes and fork over the credit card. Sheesh. *slaps self upside head*
I got this clothing steamer yesterday, the handheld kind. I HATE to iron, and a lot of my stuff (man-made knit fabrics) don't mix well with conventional ironing. Plus, I have dolly clothes I need to take care of. :) So, enter steamer. I just tried it, it seemed to work pretty well for the price ($24.99). I have a nice new pantsuit I can wear out tonight, not to mention a lot of clothes I haven't worn since I got them because they were all work clothes or I washed them and they need to be ironed.
What else? Can't remember. *faint cheering can be heard* I'm going to install this hanger-thingie I bought for Rich two weeks ago. It's a retractable thing... never mind, it'll work for my ironing husband. Then I'm going to see if I can get myself together to go out tonight. *is pitiful*
Peace out.
