*hugs Portishead very tightly* I've been meaning to DL some Massive Attack. I love the song they do with Portishead. And now I love them even more since you telling me they do the theme for House. And I'll check out Delerium, too, because you rec, and I trust your judgement.
Now, I'm telling you to try to get your hands on some Indigo Girls music (preferably 'Least Complicated', 'Ghost', or 'Watershed', but it's all good). Why? Because the last time I told you to listen to music I found via one of my favourite famous people, you fell in love.
*looks around* which of your favourite famous people recs the Indigo Girls? I have heard some of their stuff, but will definitely check out your recs.
Delerium is ... serious win. It's great inspiration music (as I know I'm not the only one who writes to their stuff), and before them, I never thought I'd like the techno/house/etc music. But seriously - they rock. "They" are really just 2 guys who do the music part, but they have awesome, awesome people to do the vocals - i.e. Sarah McLachlan ("Silence", another fab song), Leigh Nash ("Innocente", "Orbit of Me"), Emily Haines ("Stopwatch Hearts"), Mediaeval Babes ("Aria"), and many, many more. Plus - they're Canucks!
Hee hee ... yes, I know Jill's a huge Indigo Girls fan. I keep seeing the "ad" for CJ that plays on Global during the show, about the poster in Jordan's kitchen! I will definitely check them out now...
And I LOVE your Jordan icon! Look at that poker face... :)
Have a listen ... it's def worth it. YouTube is silly, but since it's the actual video for the song (done by the band), and has nothing to do with House/Fox/Viacom ... it should be okay to be viewed, and posted.
I find it really interesting that 'Teardrop' and Massive Attack aren't all that known and popular in North America. I never knew that.
I've always loved the song and the band and when I first watched House I was super excited to find that they had used as the theme for the show. I remember sitting in the living room with Melanie's mom and when the opening credits came on I went 'OMG, I love that song!' and Melanie's mom looked at me and said 'That's an actual song?! I didn't know that.'
So yes House and the song are a perfect match!
Oh and I have heard of Delerium before but right now I can't think of any of their songs. Must go and check out their music!
I'm pretty sure that Massive Attack were not on my radar before learning about them via my Portishead addiction. But I *love* Teardrop, and am still obsessed with it and have to play it each time I'm in my car. Such a great song...
It's strange that a lot of theme songs are *actual* songs first, eh? I mean ... I assume Teardrop wasn't written for House, but the writers/editors/music folk loved it and wanted to use the instrumental forthe theme.
The Bones theme is also a song, but I can't remember its title. I think it may have been done for the show, though, and then they just released a longer edition. But it's super cool. Also, Melanie was telling me that the Grey's Anatomy song is actually a song, and she heard it playing somewhere. Strange!
Oh yeah, 'Teardrop' has been around for a while. I think the song must have come out at around the time the X-Files movie was released or a year later. But I know that I already listened to it when I was still in highschool.
So, it was definitely not written for House but I can see why they picked it as the theme of the show. It's great and catchy music and fits perfectly with the atmosphere of the show.
The Grey's Anatomy theme is definitely a song too. I know that because it's my cell phone ring tone. *giggles* It's by a band called PSAPP and the song is called 'Cozy in the rocket'. It's sort of stranege music that I probably couldn't listen to all day but for my cell it's great. ;0) If you want I can send it to you so that you can listen to it.
However, I had no idea the Bones theme was a song too. That is really odd because I at the moment I can't imagine the lyrics that would fit with this music. *lol* I must go and investigate this.
The Bones theme, I think, was made strictly for the show. I believe the band is Chemical something. Not "My Chemical Romance", though ... no, wait ... Crystal Method? Yes, I think that's it.
You can find a downloadable version over here at 206_bones's community. They have an awesome music section with downloadable FULL songs for most of the music that's played on the show.
The theme, though, is more of a club/trip hop type thing. No lyrics, just really cool music.
I'll have to look into the GA theme, though. PSAPP? Really? Wow, okay. Strange.

Jill Hennessey is a massive IG fan. If you look closely enough, there's even a poster for them in Jordan's kitchen. ;)
