That temp job I had involved 12-hour days and lots of walking; I’d put in several miles per day of walking back and forth between production sites. And I did some thinking while I was walking, about several different issues. This is the first essay that I mostly composed in my head while walking. More should follow later, when I have time to type ( Read more... )

One of my co-workers had to quit so she could get some "maternity leave". The company wouldn't give it to her. They were supposed to give her light duty (didn't happen), and so on. I think eventually her boyfriend ditched her. So I have seen how much someone can get screwed over if they get pregnant.

I'm personally a firm believer in adoption. If I ever choose to have kids, I'll adopt. There are a crazy amount of kids who need parents, and need out of the foster system (which is atrocious).

But I imagine I've said this before.

(It still pisses me off when couples go to fertility clinics and spend excessive amounts of money so they can have a baby with their own genes. It seems so selfish and wasteful.)

...my God, you're a powerful, powerful writer. You really are, and I bow to you.
As for the issues involved: so much Word. I believe trini_naenae has said anything else I wanted to say about it, though.

Wow yeah, I agree with Revulo in that you wrote this very well. I don't think a lot of writers would have chosen to describe those three business folk so vividly if they all they were going to do was use them to make a point. But you took that extra step added that in to your essay as you would for a work of your fanfiction. The whole essay really had a way of putting yourself in that woman's shoes. Very good work. *claps!*
