coexistence

I’ve been meaning to write about this for a while now; just didn’t take the time to do so until today.

My husband is extremely choosy about bumper stickers. For years, he wanted no bumper stickers at all on any of our vehicles; nothing cute or funny or declaring an eclectic interest or fandom. But a while ago I found a pair of bumper stickers that ( Read more... )

I got the sticker as soon as I saw it. XD

I'm with you, really. The "One True Way" philosophy hurts so much more people than it helps. I don't have much hope of peaceful coexistance, myself. Sometimes, the "One True Way"-ism is BUILT RIGHT INTO the religion or thought process or whatever itself. (Examples would be belief systems that are made up in response to another one or is based on another and just adds to it.) True coexistance is a very, very tasty pie in the sky.

"One True Way"-ism is certainly built into Christianity, true enough. I haven't done a serious study of other religions (I wantd to take a comparitve religions course much like your recent course while in college, but needed the time for the Business Admin courses instead), so I really can't answer as to how tolerant they are. But I suspect that Judaism and Islam, the other two Abrahamic faiths, are equally intolerant at the heart of their teachings. The Old Testament of the Bible is very "It's us against the world, but God's on our side so we're going to win!" and any religion that incorporates that, incorporates intolerance.

Maybe I'm just really bitchy and bitter today, but this made me laugh.

People making an effort to accept anything other than their own beliefs is a dream that will never happen, and if it does, it'll be when our race is on the brink of absolute destruction with no chance of a do-over.

We'll sit there, as we usually do, on the tail end of "tragedy", watching our friends and fellows die, and we'll bemoan our mistakes and think that if we could do it again, we would do it right. Which is a total load of ass vomit, because we wouldn't.

-_-;

We know it's a dream. And that fact's very, very sad.
I have a friend that used to have that icon. I gank it from thee!
