Here's a suggestion I made to another friend who was going through a difficult period of adjustment. (different type, but hard nonetheless) 1. Make yourself a list of all the things you've ever been curious or interested in. (even if it's something little like trying a new type of hot sauce, or renting a video on mountain climbing.)
2. Write down on a calendar days that you will do those things. I suggest starting out with one or two items per week. The bigger ones like hiking Everest or meeting the Dahli Lama can head towards the end of the year.
3. Write about each new experience in your LJ, or tell a friend about it. It doesn't have to be a dissretation, maybe just a blurb.
Actually, now that I'm typing this...I kinda want to challenge all of my LJ friends to do this. I think you'll find that new experiences will reshape your outlook and help you step outside of yourself. It's worked everytime for me. I am learning to value the experience of life, not just the things that go well.
