Prologue Chapter 1

Kevin sighed hard while he stared down at his paper. How could he be failing his economics class? It was only the third month of school and he had a solid failing grade, it was only his economics class and it was only on the tests. He didn’t understand it, all his homework was given perfect scores, all of his papers, even all the answers given in class! How could he be failing?

That was when it hit him, and he couldn’t believe it took him this long to realize it. His teacher was related to Jaeseop. He would always come into the class when it was over, Kevin of course ignored him and only now did it occur to him that Jaeseop didn’t come to class to see him. He stormed back to the student building, where he last saw Jaeseop, more enraged than he had ever been. So because he ignored Jaeseop, his grades suffered? Who in the hell was he to interfere with someone’s grades? It was immoral, and just, well he couldn’t currently think of the word but it was something far more than just foul. Jaeseop was hurting his future, his position in the college and it just wasn’t nice!

“Yah! Jaeseop, what the hell do you think you’re doing?!” He stormed over, ready to smack the smirk right off Aj’s stupid face.

“You finally figured it out Kevin? They said you were smart. Now, if you want to pass you know what you have to do.”

“I will not make any deals with you. You will tell your…whoever that is to you, to start giving me my rightful grades or I will report you to the dean and report the teacher!” His voice was deeper and more harsh than normal.

“Go right ahead, I’m sure my uncle would love to hear about this.”

“The dean is your uncle?” His voice wavered, a lump formed in his throat when Aj nodded.

“Let me explain it to you in simpler terms in private.” He motioned for Kevin to follow him. He knew it was a bad idea but for the sake of his grades, followed Aj to the dark, quiet and very lonely classroom.

Meanwhile, Dongho got a ride to school with Soohyun who didn’t have class until later that afternoon.

“Soohyun hyung.”

“Yes, Dongho?”

“When are you going to start acting normal around me again?” Soohyun looked down, Dongho wanted to talk to him, and he figured what it was about. He suddenly wished he didn’t pick Dongho up before school started. He would rather have this talk in a more open area, where they could easily just walk away from each other if it got too hard or if they broke out into a fight. He didn’t want it to happen in his car, his small car where Dongho could easily follow him.

“Dongho, listen, I care about you a lot.”

“You don’t show it anymore. I mean, I know what I did was bad but it’s been three years already! When are you going to forgive me?”

“It’s not that.”

“Then what’s wrong?” He frowned, very confused.

“I don’t think I want this relationship anymore Dongho.” He stared, long and hard before the words started to process, the words settled. Soohyun was breaking up with him.

“I’m sorry. I won’t cheat, ever again please just, try and forgive me!”

“Dongho, if it was something easy to get over, don’t you think I would have gotten over it by now? It’s been three years and I can’t get the image of you two together out of my head, I can’t forget Dongho, I just can’t. We can still be friends, but I don’t want to date you.”

Dongho felt the tears fall, sliding down his cheeks and drop onto his hand. Soohyun was his everything, his best friend and comfort. The only security blanket he’s had for years and it was all being thrown away over a mistake that happened years ago.

Soohyun reached for Dongho’s hand, he knew Dongho would be hurt and upset, but that never meant he wanted to see him cry. He frowned a little when Dongho expectedly flinched away and got out of the car. He waited until Dongho was inside the building before driving away, he never looked back.

Dongho walked into the school slowly, he didn’t know how he looked and he didn’t care at this point in time. Soohyun had broken up with him in the car while taking him to school. How had he not seen this coming? You don’t hold onto something after three years, you don’t keep it hovering over someone you love for so long and not have thoughts of breaking up. Dongho just didn’t think it would hurt as much when they broke up. Knowing that it was his fault made it even worse.

He walked into class, glared at Changmin and sat hard in his seat, his said friend coming to see if he was alright.

“Dongho? What’s wrong sweetie?”

“Because of you, I lost him!”

“What?”

“Soohyun broke up with me! Because of you, because you tricked me into having sex with you and cheating on him! He won’t forgive me and now he broke up with me! I lost him Changmin and it’s your entire fault!” He was out of his seat, screaming at the taller one he had knocked down. Deep down Dongho knew it wasn’t Changmin’s fault; he didn’t force Dongho into doing anything, and as the years passed Dongho forgave Changmin for everything as Changmin did Dongho. He didn’t know why he was saying these things to his best friend, in his mindset of pure rage, but he knew he would regret it later.

“I wish you had killed yourself Changmin! Then Soohyun hyung wouldn’t have broken up with me!” There was the thing he would regret later. He froze, staring wide eyed at his friend who had begun to cry, he tried to quickly fix it. “I didn’t mean that Changmin.”

Changmin shook his head fast, staring at Dongho while his tears blurred his vision. He knew he did something stupid, but it was three years ago and he thought Dongho had forgiven him; he forgave Dongho so why hadn’t the latter forgiven him? He didn’t care, he walked out of the classroom, down three hallways on his way to Kyuhyun’s locker when he stopped again, staring while more tears blurred his vision. Kyuhyun was kissing someone at his locker, the smaller boy was pinned against the locker and a clear smile was on his face when Kyuhyun pulled away. It was
Sungmin. In an even more hurt state than before, Changmin slowly strode over to them.

“Kyuhyun?” He turned at the sound of his voice and just smiled with no trace of guilt or panic on his face.

“We got caught Kyuhyunnie.” Sungmin spoke softly, but he too had no trace of guilt on his face.

“What is this?”

“Sungmin is my boyfriend, we were making out.”

“Well clearly you were making out, but I thought…I was your boyfriend. We’ve been dating for months!”

“He just wanted to fuck you Changmin.” Sungmin smiled a little. “Kyuhyun will always love me and we’ve been dating for three years.”

He stepped closer, ready to smack Kyuhyun across the cheek when his hand was caught by Sungmin.

“You don’t want to do that. I took martial arts; I will break you in half if you touch Kyuhyun.” Kyuhyun chuckled and pulled Sungmin into his chest.

“Don’t hurt yourself Minnie, he’s not worth it. You know I only wanted his body, let him be angry.”
Changmin walked away, going towards the roof, he needed air, to be alone, he needed something.

Kiseop smiled while Eli fed him another grape, they were sitting in the court yard under the willow tree that hovered over a small pond. Eli surprised him with a picnic breakfast on campus. It was nice to finally have a break in the morning so they could just spend their mornings together.

“How are your classes going?”

“They’re good, I’m passing everything thankfully.”

“You’re smart Kiseop-ah, you know that.”

“I was smart in high school, college is so much harder.” Eli pressed a kiss to his temple, he smiled up at him.

“You will be fine, and I’m always here to help you, with anything and everything.”

“Really?”

“Yes, don’t ever forget that.”

“Then I have something to ask you.” Eli sighed softly; this wasn’t going to be good.

“What is it my love?”

“I want to visit my dad’s grave. Please Eli, come with me.”

“You know how I feel about your parents.”

“They’re still my parents…I didn’t get to say goodbye. Please, I can’t go alone.”

“Only because I love you, we can go after classes are over.” Kiseop sat up and smiled.

“Thank you so much.” He pecked Eli softly, smiling more and pushing a grape into his mouth.

Eli smiled, but he couldn’t help but think that if Kiseop did see his dad’s grave that he would be more inclined to help his mother, because she was on her own now and struggling. Maybe he would ask Yoochun to talk some sense into Kiseop to just let her be.
