AGH! So a new little boy moved in in the house behind a few months ago. He just turned seven. Man is he different than all the kids I have ever spent gobs of time with. You are amazing, Kim. The "it takes a village" example you constantly set is always impressive to me.

A thought and some questions - why is the mom not involved? And do you know if he was born drug addicted and/or may have had lead paint exposure? I'm wondering if there may be more brain impairment going on than "just" ADHD. Sure, it sounds like Dad is overwhelmed, but I wonder if part of why he's overwhelmed is because the kind of supervision and parenting required for this child would overwhelm *anyone*.

I don't know you. I'm just cruising random journals. But I thought I'd chime in.

It sounds like the kid is on the wrong meds. One of my son's friends is ADHD. He was on meds, but he was impossible to deal with. Then they changed his meds and he's much better.

Maybe you could suggest to his dad that he works with the doctor to find a better medication.

The wrong medication will exacerbate the disconnect between the kid and the world. The right one smooth things out so the kid can get connected enough that he/she can see what's going on and learn basic social skills. Without the right meds, or with the wrong ones, socialization is nigh on impossible.

Just my $.02.
