This is also this: http://www.natural-wisdom.com/about.htm. I wonder if this book is worth it. It sounds like a good thing to try. Has it taken up much time from you? I have been able to guess before he goes potty many times. Since he is at his 2 week milestone he may be ready. Did you buy a book?

[ukelele finally convinced me to make a LJ account, and by following through links of friends I found yours. Hi! I didn't realize you guys lived in the area, although I should have. Jon and I are still in Sunnyvale. --Beth

It's working great for us. Aria just turned 10 months, and at this point, we hardly think about EC -- it's just something we do. We still usually get a couple misses/day. We only *very* rarely have to wash poo off of her. From what I can tell, our success is about normal for people who start within the first few months.
After 6 months, they call it "late start" because the kid has already started to become diaper-trained, and I hear it's a lot different. You could check out the eliminationcommunication yahoo group to get some ideas for late starters. The list is high volume, but you can go no-mail and just check out their links section, which we found useful.
The local EC group we started with was in Berkeley, but now we moved to San Bruno, and are with the mid-peninsula group, though we haven't gone to any meetings here because they tend to be more in the Sunnyvale area -- which sounds like it might be convenient for you. Check out groups.yahoo.com/group/Mid-PeninsulaDFB (lower volume list).

Oh maybe you want more details on our misses than I gave in my first reply. Number fluctuates according to her (our) tiredness, who is taking care of her, sickness, developmental milestones, etc. Usually 2-4 pee misses/day. We have had 1 entirely miss-free 24 hours. Most nights are perfect. She usually goes in the baby bjorn little potty, so cleanup is easy (dump it into the toilet and rinse the potty.) We carry the potty with us when travelling (it's light -- I walk everywhere and it's not a problem) and dump it in the grass or wipe it up with a spare cloth. Or else we'll have her go directly in the grass or in a public toilet or sink (the sink thing we only do if nobody's looking. :-) She is signalling pretty well now, though we still use some timing. She can hold it a bit too if she knows we're trying to get to a potty. I usually have her in training pants when out, just in case, and often nakey butt at home to make pottying easier.

Another useful resource has been our local EC group, so if you can find one near you, I'd recommend trying to go to a meeting.
And soon, maybe Aria, Xavier, and Tovar can work on learning together. :-)
