i also envy the fluidity of my relatives' interaction with one another. sometimes, i can sort of get into a groove with them too, especially my younger cousins because they have a great sense of humor. but it takes a lot of effort and a sort of blank mind, like meditation or somehting. i've noticed that if i go to a family gathering with all this baggage, i'm less inclined to concentrate on connecting. it sucks that i have to concentrate so much on it. my other problem is that because my relatives are not used to having me be part of their lives, they don't really make a whole lot of effort to see me, even the ones who live in seoul! except on the major holidays, i always have to initiate seeing them which is hard because i'm lazy or busy or just preoccupied with other things. the end.
