My cats are so jealous of my big ball of yarn. SO jealous. I'm currently learning/relearning how to knit. I had to watch a YouTube video about how to cast on (it has been over 20 years since I've knitted and my Mum used to do that bit for me).

I did this when I first started teaching myself knitting and it drove me nuts.

Here's a video that explains what you're doing wrong. It's very easy to fix :D

It looks like you have a much tidier stitch than I do... my knitting is loose and floppy. I will use smaller needles for my next knitting project, whenever that is.
