What a fabulous list. I've experienced GardenFAIL with cucumbers and capsicums, as have friends of mine - something about the climate here makes them fussy. Good luck with those!

I've read that they need a lot of warmth so I've set up a climber for them in a sunny spot against the concrete base of our house. The theory is that the concrete will hold on to the warmth for longer and they will be warmer than they would be otherwise. We will see, I'm a novice gardener :-)

I think both Bunnings in town and Mitre 10 Mega in Petone have seed potatoes. Bunnings at least has about four different varieties - Nadine, Rua, Agria and Red Rascal.

Rhubarb is a funny one. Either it dies more-or-less immediately, or it takes over your garden.

I've been planting too -- mint, artichoke, chamomile, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, and nasturtiums. Soon I'll be planting beans and basil. And I want to plant a grapevine too, probably muscadines because they're tasty. :)

Absolutely. Mainly because the soil gets REALLY FRICKING HEAVY, and is hard to distribute evenly because of clumping. Especially if your soil is clay-based like mine.

Go to the tip shop at the happy valley tip - or the one in Porirua. I bet you'll find a suitable window there!
