I am moving right along with the stalling embroidery project. It has been nice working on this during the weekend's rainy days. I think the annotated pictures speak for themselves, so I'll just cut to them...

Gillyflower

Silk all done, in long & short.

Back view

First Quarter

Done for now, until I figure out what to color the narrow "fingers" in.

Light Leaf

The original had this in what appeared to be two shades of white, so I figured it was faded from shades of yellow or green. Done in surface satin stitch, with open laid stitches in silk.

Strawberry Flower

Done mostly in Cream with a little light pink, in long & short.

Berry Padding 1

Berry has been outlined in split stitch, and first layer of padding is done.

Berry 3 layers

The 2nd padding layer is done a little outside the perimeter of the first padding layer. The third layer of padding in process filling inside the whole berry.

Berry covering process

Third layer is complete, with final silk layer halfway done.

Berry Covered

Berry all covered in silk. Done in satin surface stitch to save thread. Will add gold laid threads across it later.

Berry Cluster

Showing final 2 strawberries and their flower. Lower berry has 2 layers of padding.

Yes, the first quarter of the project is mostly done with the silk, except for those fingers. I don't have any beige silk threads, but am thinking I may get some unless some other color comes to mind. The second quarter is about a third done.

I also will know how long it will take me to do the whole project - well, almost. I started using a new app on my iPhone, called HoursTracker Lite that has been very handy tracking my time actually spent on the project. I used to do the same for sewing projects using a stopwatch and writing on sheets of paper, but the battery died. This app is working very nicely so far, and it is free, and can track 3 different projects for me (I could upgrade to the paid version if I want more projects to track). I figure I will use it for my sewing projects as well. I can even put a price on my time for calculations, and I can export the info if I want. So far, working well with no complaints. The ads don't get in my way.

I started using the app with the light leaf in Quarter 2, so I figure I can add in a rough estimate of time later for the missing first quarter. So far with the light leaf, and the strawberry cluster, I've clocked in 4.22 actual hours. It just seems longer since I stop and start so often, doing other things like housework and dealing with kids in between.
