Came to my first major setback on the embroidery project. The medium and dark blues are nearly a match to each other. So much so that next to each other, on this background color, I can't see much of a difference, if any. And I was getting such a nice long & short stitch rhythm going, too.
So, I just had to order the light blue in the color range, and hope that blue doesn't match the light blue I've already used. Will then remove the medium and dark blue to shift positions. I also ordered more of the medium green since I can already see that it will be used up before I'm done, some more needles (I've only good needle left, and the one I'm using is now squeaking when it goes through the fabric), and a needle threader.
I figure if that blue does NOT work, then the blues will have to completely wait until I can buy in person, so I can find a blue that will work. Sooooo not happy. This is why I dislike online purchasing of things that are color sensitive, like embroidery threads. But no one in town carries this line of embroidery thread.
In semi-good news, I did find a set of three colors in my small stash that I hadn't planned on using - but they look good together. I think I can use them for the 'fingers' that I didn't want to have actual beige colors (which is what the faded originals looks like). The colors are basically oranges or rust colored, to a dark coppery color. Oranges is one color set I understand was around in the Elizabethan era, at least in fabric colors as tawny or russet (meaning the color), but hadn't seen in this project. Otherwise, it will be something mushroom colored, which just doesn't sound that appealing - although I can document mushroom colored for embroidery. I guess I need to find something in this color range in embroidery before I actually use it. (sigh)
Edit: Strike that thought about orange... seems oranges aren't found in the embroidery images I've got. But who says hot pink and electric blue aren't period.
Click here, click the image at the top right, then click "enlarge image" again to zoom into the glove. Man those are bright colors on the blue and pink. If it comes to it, I do have a bright blue in my silks, but I thought it would be too bright and hence, not period. I was wrong.
In other news, the new
floor stand to hold my slate frame finally arrived. I had ordered it before the car problems. The whole family helped to put it together, and Rob had 2 larger carriage bolts so that it would fit the frame well (it otherwise was a smidge too narrow). This actually grips it really well on the sides, enough that I can tilt it mostly upright and it doesn't slip (the trick is the cork grips). I can even position it really up close to my chest, tilt it, have it flat like a table if I want, and even flip it over to work on the backside if I wanted to. It really is very very handy, and worth the price I paid for it with a coupon - it may even be worth full price. I've been having less strain using it, and no more falling frame. It does need a cover - or I should make a cover that will fit over the frame and the stand together, as my wrapping system is rather clumsy.
On portions that are done, I got one more leaf done, a little tri-leaf that I modified from its original coloring, mainly to try out a shading pattern in one of my books. I like it better this way. I'll post photos of it later.
I will be putting this project on hold for a bit. The costume work piling up needs to get going. I think I'll move it elsewhere so I won't get so easily distracted to work on it.
