Spent the night in Hamburg though only just barely as the main hostel was actually booked pretty much completely and I got there after dark (I'm leery of hunting for lodging at night after my experience in Aberdeen, Scotland) but I managed to secure one of their 'emergency' beds. Which is to say, they put seven beds into one of the secondary rooms ( Read more... )

Yay, Yann Tiersen!

Yay, hurdy-gurdies sound awesome (I googled that to see what it is) I want to hear one now...

And YAY The intricately decorated book sounds amazing!! Were you allowed to photograph in the museum??

Heh, Hurdy-gurdies are awesome. They're some something like the bastard child of an acordian, some highland bagpipes and a violin in there, where the bagpipes and violin take most of the sound end of things. However, depending on how its played it can actually sound rather different!
Surprisingly, yes I was allowed to take photos. I've got a couple hundred I'm sorting through right now so I can post them (and I need to find time to do more drawing and actually write something inbetween all of the other stuff so appologies if I take a while to get stuff up. I'm thinking I'm going to just start posting highlights and toss the rest up later once I've properly sorted through the mess)

Very interesting :o Now that I watched your link in the other comment I'd like to hear one in person!

As for art and photos and stuff, well come on! You're out in the wild experiencing all kinds of new and exciting things, it's understandable to me if you don't have time to sort and upload pics, haha. There's plenty of time for that later. You don't wanna spend too much time sorting pics when you could be out taking more new ones and having more fun, right?! x)

I am looking forward to the drawings you come up with during the trip though, but yeah no pressure from me, just know I'm looking forward to them! :D

Well, I don't know where you might find one in person, I do know that a lot of music by Loreena McKennitt has hurdy gurdies in it (and its great music aside from that as well!)

You should check out some of the other photos in that album (you should be able to access them) as I've also got shots of that book's sides and spine.

As for drawings, I've mostly been trying to stick to doing life drawings and serious sketches, though we'll see how long I last before I just start doing silly little cartoons inbetween the serious stuff! sadly, I've only finished one significant one so far but I have plans for at least one more before the week is out!
