I don't get the Amulet obsession. I know I'm in the minority on this opinion. I get the sentimentality about the amulet. I do. It was a tangible symbol of brother love and all that. Dean thru it away in a moment of disappointment, frustration, and anger, and I cried over its loss and the significance of that gesture, but I was mostly okay with

I don't really feel one way or the other about the amulet any more. I do agree that to have Sam return it to Dean at this point would just feel wrong. But that doesn't mean that I can't imagine a sequence of events where it might turn up again. Someone else had mentioned the retrievablitity issue of leaving it in a motel waste basket. Anyone(thing?) could have picked it up.

If it does show up, I just hope it doesn't feel contrived. I'm sure I'll cry buckets if they do it right. But I'm fine if I never see it again.
