Chapter Three
"Oh crap oh crap oh crap..." Sakura chanted what sounded like a mantra. It was 1:15 P.M. and she was still in her pyjamas. Her Grandma had already left and she had left behind a map, with 'Amakusa Park' circled in red. She had even circled the house to make it easier. It wasn't a very far walk, but Sakura had just woke up and she began to hyperventilate.
SAKURA SAKE BOKU NO MUNE...
Sakura jumped and spun around to see her phone lighting up. She recognized her ringtone and grabbed it.
"H-Hello?" She said, rather insanely.
"Err, hello? Sake? Is that you?" Sake? Sakura blinked. No on had ever called her 'Sake'. There was only one person who called her that...
"KYAAAAA!" Sakura squealed.
"Ow. Just to let you know, that kinda hurt. Thanks Sake." Sakura laughed.
"Haggis! I miss you so much!"
"Now now, who is this Haggis you speak of? Last time I checked, I'm not a Scottish delicacy." Sakura giggled and plopped down into the chair.
"The rest of the world calls you Harriet and the rest of the world calls me Sakura. So until you go with the flow, I ain't stopping." Harriet mocked a sigh.
"Ah well, you know me, I don't go with the flow. I go backwards. Anywho, how's Jay-pan?" Sakura paused before answering.
"It's...okay, I guess."
"Okay? JUST okay? Bullshit. No seriously. Any guys at least?" Sakura grinned. If there was one thing about Harriet that Sakura missed (though she would never admit it, even now) was Harriet’s boy-crazed mind. Her policy was something like ‘When in doubt, talk about boys’. At least, that’s what she had claimed…In fifth grade. Obsession was an understatement.
“Weeeeell….”
“OMGOSH! Is he cute? Is he hot? Is he tall or short? Is he Japanese? Can he even understand you? How did you meet? Are you going to see him again?” Sakura waited until there was only the faint crackle of the telephone line.
“Ahem, I didn’t even say anything.”
“Shut up, you implied it!”
“How sure are you about that?”
“’Cause you never denied anything.”
“Okay, you need to stop talking.” Harriet giggled at her triumph.
“I knew it. What’s his name?”
“Keito.” There was a silence that followed. Sakura found this to be odd.
“Hello? Haaaaaaaggis? You there?” Maybe she got disconnected. Stupid long distance calls. But just as the thought had formed in her head, Harriet spoke again.
“O-Oh, sorry, um, hey, I gotta go. It’s like 1:20 A.M.”
“Aww you suc-”
“Sake? Did you hang up already?”
“OMGOSH! I’M LATE!”
“Late for what?” Harriet asked in spite of her curiosity.
“I’m supposed to meet him in 10 minutes!” Sakura was to intent on how late she was to notice Harriet cough pointedly.
“Uhh, I’ll let you get ready if you let me go to sleep.” Sakura stopped hyperventilating and sighed.
“Deal! I’ll talk to you soon. Bye Haggis.” She grinned and Harriet chuckled softly.
“Bye bye dear Sake.” Then the line went dead and Sakura flipped her phone shut. Despite her anxiety over miraculously making it on time for her (she couldn’t…more like wouldn’t call it a date) meeting with Keito, she couldn’t help but to feel a tinge of sadness seep into her heart. She missed her U.S. friends so much, and she missed her home there. But she sighed and then glanced at the time. 1:22 P.M. Her eyes widened and she scrambled to the bathroom and began getting ready.

“I’m so late, I’m so late, I’m so late!” Keito muttered breathlessly. He was on the edge of his seat, straining his seatbelt to its furthest and Hikaru was eying him anxiously.
“Ne, Keito-kun. Daijobu desu ka?” Hikaru asked tentatively. Keito snapped his head towards Hikaru who kept his eyes on the road, but as they reached the stop light, it had turned red and Hikaru glanced at his cousin.
“O-Oh, gomen Hikaru-kun. It’s just…” Keito stopped talking and leaned back into his seat, looking out the window, a blank stare overshadowed his eyes.
“It’s just…?” Hikaru asked quietly, eyes back on the road and driving at a fast pace, just underneath the limit.
“I’m…I’m supposed to meet someone…” Hikaru turned his head towards Keito and looked at him with wide eyes.
“Ehhhhh?!” Keito looked from Hikaru to the steering wheel then to the front window.
“Hikaru-kun! Keep your eyes on the road!” Hikaru turned back to the front and quickly swerved, narrowly avoiding an idle car in the left lane.
“Ah, sumimasen, demo, you said that you’re meeting someone.” Keito grunted in reply and Hikaru stayed quiet for the rest of the car ride there. At last, Keito spotted a sign saying天草公園. Underneath, it read Amakusa Park. Keito gasped and Hikaru braked slowly.
“Hai, Keito-kun. I think…I think I’ll just stay in here, or walk around, it’s a big park, but it’s hard to get lost.” Hikaru half-smiled and Keito looked at him nervously.
“But I’m still pretty new ne.” Hikaru patted his cousin on the shoulder and looked him in the eye.
“Look, if I never got lost, then there is no doubt that you won’t.” Hikaru grinned and unlocked the doors; a confused expression flitted across Keito’s face.
“Okay then…” He mumbled in English, Hikaru to occupied with his seat belt to hear anything.
“Ne, Hikaru-kun, can you at least walk me around the park? So I can get a sense of it? Onegaishimasu!” Hikaru chuckled and nodded.
“Fine, but after that, I’m leaving you with your lady friend.” Oh crap! Hikaru, you should learn to keep your mouth shut. You were doing just fine in the car. Keito’s spine stiffened and he turned away to hide the blush now attacking his cheeks.
“W-What makes you think it’s a girl I’m meeting?” Hikaru was caught in a dilemma. Should he tell him what he heard? Not that he had understood anything at all, except for that name which was enough for him to guess.
“Ano…” But before he could continue on with his ‘explanation’…
“Keito?” The two cousins spun around to see a breathless girl standing a few feet away from them. She carried a black messenger bag adorned with buttons saying things like ‘Save the trees! Eat the cheese!’ ‘iTouch? No, iKick!’ ‘Save the world. No tights required!’ ‘I♥NY’. Her hair was down, her soft waves lay casually on her shoulder, a small pouf on the top of her head. She wore a simple white cardigan with a black shirt underneath, dark skinnies with black flats with a polka-dotted bow which accented her simple crystal studs.
“S-Sakura?” She smiled and sighed with relief.
“Ohmygosh, I thought I got the wrong person for a second there!” He couldn’t help but to smile, and he scratched the back of his head. Hikaru cleared his throat and looked from Sakura to Keito. Keito turned to his cousin and then looked back at Sakura.
“Oh, Sakura. This is my cousin, Hikaru.” Sakura looked at Hikaru and smiled, blushing lightly.
“Nice to meet you.” It was Hikaru’s turn to look flustered.
“Err, Hajimemashite..?” He even added a peace sign for added effect. Sakura’s eyes widened and then she smiled again.
“Ahh, Hajimemashite Hikaru-kun! Genki desu ka?” Hikaru’s mouth dropped slightly and then he laughed.
“Oh gosh, you got me there. And hai, genki desu!” He said cheerfully. Keito couldn’t help but to feel a little relieved at the turn of events. Sakura didn’t appear to mind Hikaru’s added presence and Hikaru seemed to get along with just about anyone.
“Okay! Let’s go explore!” Hikaru said, adding the ‘Superman’ pose at the end.
“Sugoii! You even added a little English ne!” Keito grinned at his cousin who stuck his tongue out at him. Sakura laughed out loud, clutching at her sides.
“Kawaii ne! Would you care to show us around Mr. Superhero?” Hikaru smiled and nodded and the three of them set off. That’s when thing seemed to get easier, or maybe, it just got complicated.
