See now. Why did John feel the need to hide this side of himself from the boys? He growls at anyone that looks sideways at them, but then he turns around and just swats the boys for good measure. For seven months Dean feels like he's been abandoned, and yet the whole time John is watching out for him.

Still, it is always good to read something that shows just how damn tough and mean John was, and that if you wrong a Winchester, he'll be there to put things to rights.

YES! Go John! That's just what I wanted to do to Andy (er...and John) all the way through that last chapter you posted!

And that's the essence of John Winchester. What's that quote from IMTOD? "I wonder if your boys know how much Daddy loves them"? (Or something similar!) I think on a lot of levels they DID know John loved them, but I get the impression he wasn't the most demonstratively loving of parents! THIS is totally John's idea of parental love. As is selling your soul to a demon to save your boy's life.

Nice little extra scene! Want to read the next chapter of the main event, but really should be asleep by now...!
