I had the same "WHOOPS I SHIP IT!" moments during this episode, too. I was also kinda sad at how short Shiro's screentime was. I need to watch the subbed episode later tonight (must play my Kyoryuger household in Sims today, cannot be bothered with anything else!)...I noticed at the end, the one baddie that always cries (I'm crap with names, yeesh) had some random jewel from the MotW, so of course my brain goes "OH, maybe Shiro is trapped in that, maybe the monster didn't kill him but stole his life force, they never really showed what happened to him! Just because the place exploded means nothing, the MotW escaped just fine. Let's make Shiro evil like Sid-senpai in Gokaiger and kill people with feels again!" Because honestly, that would be cool. I wanna see more of Ian's past with Shiro while wearing a snazzy waistcoat and cravat. Please and thank you, Toei!
But then next week there's going to be headbutting between Ian and Souji, so I think Toei is deliberately trying to kill all of the fujoshis. Seriously.
Yeah, I would have liked to see more of him, but tbh I'm just glad he did a cameo at all. I love these kinds of ridiculously shippable/angsty back stories (since this is basically a repeat of Magis from Goseiger's scene). I'd love it if your theory was correct though. It looks like the gem itself has some kind of significance :D NGL I laughed at how Ian seemingly survived plummeting off of a cliff on to solid ground before the subs told me he got saved by his dinosaur.
Evil Princess Ebi-chang would be hilarious given how girly Ebisawa is irl. I feel like he could pull it off, but it'd be super funny at the same time. Sid/Joe was one of my favorite things about Gokaiger, but I was a bit miffed we never got to see evil!Sid in human form.
Ian/Souji is what I figured I'd be shipping, so I'm looking forward to any prospective bickering between them next week.
Seriously, the whole point of seeing Ian's backstory seemed to be for shipping purposes. *lol* What I got from it was "I failed at hitting on this girl, but then my hot senpai came along and we went off on an adventure and it was all good." But yes, I can't see any point in showing that gem at the end of the episode if it doesn't mean SOMETHING. I just hope the SOMETHING involves angsty shipping and makes me want to write fic.
Also, yeah, if Ian fell from a cliff, even if he was saved by his dino, heck, there's a good chance that Shiro possibly survived the explosion or was whisked away for nefarious purposes. GAH, even if this doesn't happen, I want to write it and make it just horribly angsty.
Or, you know, maybe Shiro will just show up and be an evil creeper with a suitcase full of candy, lurking around Tokyo and causing trouble. XD (yes, I started watching Go-onger recently, and that was the best scene ever)
If you write fic for Shiro/Ian (or Ian/anyone tbh) I shall be deliriously happy. I was chatting to zombieroadtrip about Ian this morning, and the theory which I came up with for shipping purposes is;
~ Ian aggressively hits on all the hot ladies before Shiro's death in an attempt to convince himself he doesn't have feelings for his sexy treasure huntin' best friend. Then after his death the ladies are a distraction. After all, he doesn't seem particularly bothered when they turn him down, and since it's always a different one according to Ami they obviously don't mean much to him.
I'm sorry I wasn't around today but I haven't been well and I really need to get rid of it before I start my new job on Weds. I will see you tomorrow if you're around, though!
