I have definitely gone out in a third-fourth-fifth wheel situation. Actually, there were also sixth and seventh wheels. It was me, a guy I liked, two of his friends and three of mine and everyone knew why we were all there. :D

glad to hear it's not uncommon, haha. i'm pretty sure we wouldn't out our friends through that if either of us could drive, and it's a lot easier to just be like ok, bye parents, i'm going to the movies with my friend who drives!

hahaha, don't be so sure. I'm in my mid-20s and still pulling the friend-group-first-date. It's just a more comfortable setting to get to know a person.
