Thanksgiving dilemma... shenanigans?

Nov 21, 2005 15:26

So I haven't talked to my Dad in about 2 years.

He wants to see me this thanksgiving.

He'll no doubt be disappointed in my lack of success thus far.

He'll ask why i don't have a girlfriend. I'm hating Thanksgiving more and more every year because of this. All my relatives want to know where my girlfriend is >_Options ( Read more... )

lying sucks. but it'd be worth it if you really value your dad that much. there has to be a compromise somewhere, and it may be your principles or integrity.

telling the truth would get you expelled from his life, but you'd be honest. definitely a good thing, seeing as how he hasn't really made much effort with you anyway.

shenanigans reveal the desperation, idiocy, and ridiculous nature of the situation, which can be a good thing for your perspective. i think you should go with the shenanigans personally. just promise me you'll apathetically half-ass the endeavor, because you would come out a better person no matter what the outcome.

dad finds out: "oh, i don't really care anyway. i tried, but you're never there. gogo independent children of the world!"

dad doesn't find out: "all is right in the jungle."

and you get to act something out in a very sitcom like manner either way.

dude, you don't have to lie, and you don't have to tell the whole truth. It's not like you're in court.

Just tell him women around here are all pieces of shit. That's not lying. He doesn't need to know anything more than that.

You don't know my Dad. It's worse than court with him. It's a constant spy game. Finding out as much information as possible from the other without giving any in exchange. It's odd, but that's how it works with us.

Believe me, I know how that is. I work with my Dad, and as his employee I have to explain everything to him. Fortunately, we've managed to seperate our Father/Son relationship from the Boss/Employee relationship. In any case, the fact that girls around here are total crap is more legitimate than you might think. I haven't had a girlfriend in 6 yers, and I'm straight. Every girl I have ever met has either been totally retarded, a mother, or has serious weight problems (superficial is one thing, taking care of personal heigene is another). Basically, what I meant is that just imply that you don't have a girlfriend because the women around here are pieces of crap and you have higher standards. You technically wouldn't be lying.

Well, despite everyone else's advice, I'll be your "girlfriend" if you need me to. It sure as hell won't be the first time I've done it.

I can't even imagine you getting someone to pose as your gf... wow. What a thought. I mean, not as an insult or anything, but you've made it so clear that you like the same sex and all over the years... besides, when I say someone's cute, you're great to back me up... so yeah. You with a fake gf?

Crazy things abound.
