I saw Logan today. Non-spoilery reaction: it's pretty damn good and you should see it if you have any interest in the X-Men movieverse(s). Don't (unlike some idiots I saw today) bring young kids, though, because it's also pretty damn violent--apparently the creators thought they needed to justify that R rating with lots of blood.

I was surprised we didn't get a post-credits scene at all (though as a friend of mine pointed out, we got a Deadpool short at the beginning), but thinking about what you said about themes of the movie made it sort of make sense to me in a way -- because the post-credit scenes are usually not just teasers for what's coming next but fun/hopeful (even when they're teasing a villain or threat, there's usually an audience feel of, "Oh, I recognize this character/plot, exciting!"), and so the lack of a post-credits scene forces us to dwell for a bit in the death/absence of "our" generation of X-Men and the unknown-ness of what comes next for these kids.

I was Googling for whether the producers have made statements about what future movies will be and read this about Caliban -- which suggests he's only been in 1 other X-movie, and played by a different actor there.The X-movies are a bit lousy with continuity problems but, to be absolutely fair, so are the X-Men comics. Perhaps the most glaring weirdness in Logan is the fact that Caliban, ( ... )
