My K3 is dying! The battery won't hold a charge and even after being plugged in all night it still shows the empty battery screen.  I try rebooting/restarting it and 99% of the time, the empty battery screen returns.  On the rare occasion it reboots successfully and I'm able to access my content, the battery indicator shows a minimal charge ( Read more... )

Have you tried using a different micro USB charging cable? I had a similar problem with my phone, and the cable was apparently the problem.

I'm still using my Kindle Touch, so I have no recommendations for you.

Same with the Kindle Keyboard - but I didn't have to pay anything, and they didn't want the old one back either.

I would call / chat Amazon first. They usually take really good care of Kindle customers, either offering a replacement or a discount on a new Kindle.

I have a Kindle 4 (have yet to upgrade to a Paperwhite), but the K4 does collections. It's a definite must for me, too, because I keep about 600 books/fanfics/reference materials on my Kindle at one time, so organization is key.

I chatted with Amazon as that seemed to be the first step that everyone suggested.

The rep had several suggestions for me to try (all but one were things I'd already tried) before he announced my Kindle is defective.

They're offering me a "certified refurbished" K4 for $47, so I'll probably go that with that. The Paperwhite on the list of replacement options is a previous generation and it's a bit more $ than I want to spend on something that's refurbished.

Thanks everyone for the help!

Hi, do you know if the Kindle 4 uses collections like the Sony PRS line of readers? With Sony pulling out of the ereader market I'm looking into potential devices for the future and I hadn't considered Kindle before because there was no good way to organize all my fanfiction on the earlier Kindles.

I'd appreciate any and all help in learning more about Kindle 4 collections.

Thanks

I have an old Sony, but I can't remember if I've ever used collections on it. Basically, on the Kindle, you can sort by Recent, Title, Author, or Collections. I keep mine on Collections always.

When you add new content (directly or through the Send To Kindle option) you highlight the title, hit right, and it will give you the option to Add to Collection. You highlight the one you want, save, and it's automatically put in that collection and no longer appears outside of the collections list. You can assign the same item to multiple collections if you wish.

Let me know if there's anything else that I can answer, to help the comparison.

I also have the Paperwhite, have different collections on it. I read alot of fanfiction, too, so I understand how important these collections are. And it's possible to passsword protect the Paperwhite, too.
