[Nothing but darkness and deep, harsh, almost-sobbing breaths for a few long minutes. Then the uncertain shuffling of a person moving around a dark room. A sliver of light as the door opens, a shadow as Jack exits, a sound as it closes

Strange lights in the sea? MARK IS SO THERE.

Mark's walking along the beach, brooding, when the light show starts up.
That's strange phenomena if he's ever seen it; he lengthens his stride, searching the dark water for the source.

Close enough, a dark man-shape cuts itself out against the arcs and flashes, flinging blue light from his left hand. Jack is standing thigh-deep in the water, looking out to sea, and the roar keeps the sound of Mark's footsteps out of his ears. He doesn't turn.

"Jack?"

He cups his hands and hollers above the waves.

"Jack!"

Jack turns, tensing all over, his hand crawling with sparks. It's a warning, should Mark be unfriendly, but he holds it up like a flashlight, peering across the water.

The light snaps off, and Jack wades back to shore.

"Mark."
