picspam: five favourite disney musical scenes
Disney was a huge part of my childhood. The library of Disney videotapes in my house rivalled the amount I own on DVD now and I watched every one of them over and over. I was a Disney child and I still am, there is a part of me that's never grown up because I still love these movies. I love the seamless blending of dialogue and music so they're like a musical, especially in the Disney renaissance period. Some of the songs from the movies are some of my favourite songs ever, and when I saw the challenge at picspammy this popped into my head, because Disney movies have such beautiful animation. My favourite Disney movie - The Lion King - doesn't get a mention here, not because I don't love the songs, but because there are something about the five songs I chose that captured my imagination, both as a child and today. Alphabetical order by movie; if I had to pick a favourite I'd say 'Kiss The Girl' but wouldn't commit.

friend like me - aladdin
Aladdin is the first Disney movie I remember seeing at the cinema. To this day it remains my second favourite The Lion King being my first) and this is my favourite scene in the movie. It's so well put together with the Genie becoming everything that Aladdin could have/want and it's beautifully animated.
everybody wants to be a cat - the aristocats
This song is one of my favourites from any Disney movie; despite my love of Disney renaissance music I love The Aristocats especially this song. It fits the movie so well and it's so catchy and it's really the turning point in the movie where Duchess really comes to accept O'Malley and his life. Plus, cats! Singing and dancing! What could be better?
be our guest - beauty and the beast
I'm always fond of the big grand song that Disney seems to put in all of their animated movies, but Be Our Guest is definitely my favourite of them. Household items coming to life is nowhere near as weird as it should be, and I love Cogsworth and Lumiere when they're under the spotlight.
kiss the girl - the little mermaid
Sebastian is my favourite character in The Little Mermaid and this song is one of the reasons why. No matter how disapproving he might be over Ariel's choice, he's still trying to get her what she wants. The animation is so beautiful, especially the lagoon.
almost there - the princess and the frog
I only saw this movie a few days ago, but Almost There is a beautiful song and the animation had me gaping. The transformation of the scene to the 20s art deco style is such an inspired idea and it's so well put together. The transition from real to imaginary is wonderful too, as is Tiana and her mother dancing on the wheel.
