So, last week I went to this Seminar for Gastric By-Pass surgery. I've decided, I can't do the diet thing on my own. I just... can't. I need some way of my body actually helping me instead of hurting me when it comes to losing weight. Hey...had I read this before I talked to you last night, I would have mentioned it. Each procedure has it's own design and task. It also has it's own risks.

Duodenal switch -
Pros: Faster weight loss. More weight loss. Can still eat normal food.
Cons: Higher chance of dumping on more things. Quick weight loss = higher chance to regain later on down the road.

RNY -
Pros: Extensive weight loss. Lesser chance of dumping. Higher chance of keeping weight off long term.
Cons: Diet is a little more restrictive as some things don't process right after RNY.

I looked at the DS surgery, and my doc only did the RNY too. Now, I've got a co-worker here at Nashville Comcast 3 years ago. He went from 495lbs, down to 183lbs in two years. The last year, he's been slowly gaining it back despite watching his diet and ramping up his exercise.

In fact, he's going to be partnering with me when I go to the gym to help us both start losing again.

Personally, I would do the RNY all over again if I had the choice. :)
