The vicissitudes of international mail

Whilst travelling through Australia in February, I found, as one does, that the total weight of my baggage kept increasing. As such, I stepped into the post offices in a number of places (Melbourne, Glebe, Narooma (NSW) and Bulimba (Brisbane)), packaged up my surplus belongings and mailed them back to the UK ( Read more... )

When I was in London in July, 2006, I did the same thing - sent a box of surplus belongings back to Melbourne.

I got back to Melbourne in August. The box arrived not in August... or September... or October. It was late November. At the time I blamed the British postal service - in person (when I sent it) they seemed incredibly pompous and lazy. If it happens in both directions, then I'm not sure. Maybe they're held up at U.K. Border Control to be sniffed by Anti Terror Dogs.
