I'm always surprised at the offensive things that otherwise liberal people say, with or without thinking...

There is something to be said for the fact that he at least recognizes that what he's saying is potentially insulting. I've been around far too many people who use "gay" as a negative descriptive who honestly don't understand why it might be considered offensive.
