I don't think anyone really could. I've been told this is a completely different world and there's no way out, but that sounds very silly. Though, there's no way of explaining these little 'pocket monsters'.

Most of us have never heard of them before, but they're not... chimeras, like you guys keep calling them. The way Ed explained it, if they were, they wouldn't make up pretty much the entire animal kingdom here.
[Katara has a flaming unicorn sitting down on her left, a Loch Ness monster on her right, and a cute little brown fox in her folded lap, who she's currently brushing. The gear is being held by Poliwhirl.] But you've pretty much got the rest right. We're stuck here, and this place might send us back at any time with no memory of what happened here, but probably not. Time back home is frozen until then, so at least there's that.
