Just when you think you can buy a house......bang, you can't. Money that will never been seen ever again. How on earth is it justified for first time buyers?!

Over £11k SDLT for our first home, or 1.3 years' rent at the place we were staying before we bought. Quite fucking outrageous.

It's worth pointing out that the thresholds for SDLT have remained the same since its introduction, which is criminally unfair since property prices have trebled since then. On top of that it is calculated using "slabs", instead of using progressive tiers, which is even more ridiculously fucked up.
