The
crew results are up, though possibly with a problem. The networked scoring system didn't record anything for Clare B and thought we were Caius C instead. Now, oddly enough, there's a 0.09 second different between the average split times of Clare B and Caius C on the rankings, yet we finished several seconds ahead of them - they were on the erg next to us - and with only CCAT B (the winners of division 2) finished before us in the entire hall. I reckon this means we got 4th (and 6th!) place in the division, but we'll have to wait for the individual results to shake out first...
Performance was quite dire - 1:49ish - which is (slightly) slower than I'd managed at the boat house on my own! Didn't die, and got a free t-shirt, though, so rather cool overall.
Long delay here, due to the erg competition and people being away. Warmed ourselves up on the ergs before Ed arrived, and got some technique coaching from Nigel. Rowed in #3 today, so wasn't getting hit in the back (unlike #5 when bow 4 are rowing and stern 4 sitting the boat), which was nice. Set off dead on 7:30 - so a clear river - with bow 4 rowing and putting down some decent power. Stern 4 for a while, then moved up to stern 6 and all 8 as we got to the Long Reach. Rather lamely, I managed to catch a crab and had to limbo back under my blade with the boat still moving :(
We hit a load of traffic on the way back, so ended up doing some technique exercises - well, tapping - and being coached from the bank on our technique. The balance was certainly feeling a lot better towards the end... 8 people only slightly rushing the slide and the boat not rocking too badly. Spent most of the way back doing (all 8) backstops -> 2~5 strokes -> "easy oar" -> "take the run off" -> "hold it up!" due to a really slow crew in front. Still, I guess that means our starts (and stops) should be really polished now :)
Oh, and Clare B is now officially called InebriVIII. For The Win!
