Everyone knows I love the spelling bee, probably because I am living vicariously through these kids. So here are my thoughts of this year, starting with the principal players. The first picture is of Samir Patel, who was the No. 1 seed this year, but was eliminated before the championship round even began!! The rest of the pictures are from the group of 13 finalists:

- The judges spelled hechsher wrong. How do the spelling judges copy and paste a word from the dictionary wrong?! Their one job is to provide a correctly spelled word!
- The awful pun by the announcers when they said "Finola can hack it."
- Finola was eliminated on the word "Weltschmerz" pronounced "Veltshmertz." Finola spelled it correctly but substituted a V for the initial W. What a rookie mistake?! Not to toot my own horn or anything, but I got that word right, and I am very disappointed that Finola forgot that German words beginning with the "V" sound actually start with a "W." Very disappointed.
