I can't handle this anymore. I can't cope. My bank balance is in the red. NPower are threatening us with legal action. BT will probably be cutting off the phoneline soon. I need to find people to stay in the empty rooms or I'll have to pay double rent. It's all too fucking much. I'm stuck handling all this cause no one here gives a fuck. I can't ( Read more... )

Calm down, for starters.

They can't take what you don't have. Call up the companies and explain that you haven't got the money to pay them, and that you can make arrangements to pay the money back in smaller payments. Yes, it sucks, but really-- the worst they can do is bitch at you. They can't actually kill those that you love or anything. Not paying bills isn't illegal... you can't go to jail for it.

Secondly-- approach your flatmates reasonably and explain the situation without violencing them. Together come up with a plan. It might be that it's time to move out and find somewhere cheaper, with cheaper bills.

You can do it, it will just require a bit of discomfort. We've all been there.

Good luck! x

1. Calm down.
2. How much is left on the Npower bill? Realistically, they can't threaten you with anything if you've been making payments.
3. Ditto BT - what are the dates and what are they asking for? If it's from the summer, I might be liable for a bit of it, so I can help out there.
4. Go with what Angela says; try to talk to the others without violencing them. I know, it's a utter bitch, but I always managed it. Sort of.
5. Seriously, calm down.
6. Sort out another flat ASAP. Get out of there, even if it's just into a place by yourself.
7. I mean it on the last two.

1. Calmed.
2. There's only £200 left on it, meaning we're ahead in payments. But they only want to talk to Miss Gibbon so we can't sort anything out.
3. Tom paid it last week and never told me. Don't know whether to hit him or hug him.
4. Spoken to Tom, got things sorted. No other flatmates to worry about just yet.
5. Serously, calmed.
6. What? Why? The issue is there aren't enough people living here and I'm sorting that. Might do a quick flathunt around town sometime though.

Angela and Hannah are right - if you arrange to pay any debt to NPower back within a year they can't take legal action. Even if they bothered trying the judge would throw it out of court because you're being reasonable and making them an offer of payment. Obviously you still need to organise something, but you have more time than the scaremongering electricity companies say.

I don't know how much you're paying just now, but there are some properties here - mostly at least two-bedroom flats, but it would probably be easier to find one other person to share the rent than three.

Okay, I spent too much time writing that comment. Still, the link might come in handy.
