CHARACTER
NAME: Gilgamesh
AGE: N/A. Having his name written into the history books, Gilgamesh has attained a state of immortality. It is estimated he lived in 27th century BC (nearly 5000 years ago).
FANDOM/MEDIUM: Fate/stay night (game/anime)
TIMELINE PERIOD: After he realizes the Saber in the fifth War for the Holy Grail is King Arthur, but before she kills him.
ABILITIES:
Being a demi-god, he has super human strength and charisma; the way he carries himself is so grandiose that the average person typically feels as though Gilgamesh's immediate surroundings have a hint of majesty to them.
While most Servants are bound to their Master physically, Gilgamesh is of the Archer class, which grants him the inherent ability of independent action - he is allowed to leave his master for an extended period of time while most summoned spirits are unable to do as such, and must remain in close proximity of their master.
Personal skills include his famed "Gates of Babylon", which allows him to access his unlimited vault of weaponry and riches. (The number of weapons he keeps is literally unlimited; he tends to recklessly use these weapons as projectiles, rather than involving himself in hand-to-hand combat.) Of these weapons, his favoured weapons include the Chains of Heaven, Enkidu, which is specifically designed to restrict movement in the godly/spiritual, and his personal sword, Ea. Ea has the ability to crush the fabric of time and space, similar to the effects of a black hole.
Gates of Babylon is extremely limited in use, however: it requires an enormous amount of mana/magical energy to perform and while Gilgamesh has a staggeringly huge amount of it, it is definitely finite.
CHARACTER BACKGROUND:
Gilgamesh, legendary god-king of Uruk. Witnessing his most beloved companion die, he had sworn himself on a quest for immortality, but after a number of trials and their subsequent failures, he came to accept that death was inevitable - true immortality was granted by the tales dead men leave behind. Following his death, Gilgamesh achieved this immortality he so longed for and became an Epic Spirit (a soul of the legendary dead), granting his strength to any who would be powerful enough to summon him.
Called to participate in the fourth Holy Grail War, he was unable to finish the climatic battle with the summoned Saber due to a conflagration that leveled the city, and thus he would later develop an obsession with her. After the battle, he was able to come into contact with the Holy Grail, which granted him a body of flesh while poisoning his soul and making him somewhat less mentally stable. This allowed him to remain in the physical world while the other summoned spirits returned to the depths of time.
The fifth Holy War: Gilgamesh acted under the supervision of an acquaintance from the previous war. Though he was ordered to keep his presence known from the new set of Masters and Servants, when he discovered the new Saber was the very same spirit that he was not allowed to defeat, he doggedly pursued her: first as a wife, then secondly, after inevitable rejection, to crush; to kill; to destroy completely and utterly.
CHARACTER PERSONALITY:
The King of Heroes: Gilgamesh has always been extremely over-confident and pompous, his ego reaching heights that would probably disgust most people. Despite this, he was so well-respected (you can't help but respect someone who can behead you, after all) that it was not uncommon for people to ask him for advice. Perhaps due to this confidence, Gilgamesh doesn't anger easily; the only time he seems to is when people, in his eyes, actively try to lower him to their level (HE ALSO LIKES HIGH PLACES). He's also very straightforward and honest with everything he says or does - to the point of bluntness.
He becomes extremely destructive when bored; Gilgamesh has once very nearly driven his people to despair because he had nothing better to do than to be a complete asshole. He takes what he wants, does whatever he wants when he wants, and finds great pleasure in being spitefully contrary or disobedient. Despite these negative aspects, though, he does understand what it means to rule a country (even if his philosophy is a Machiavellian one), and has protected his people from disaster -- it is said that Gilgamesh was the one who built the impenetrable walls of Uruk.
On the surface, he treats anyone he deems "weak" as trash, as he measures worth in strength and ability - physical shows of power - rather than more subtle shows of strength, such as abstracts like "courage". He is extremely sexist and regards women as animals; outright refusing to regard women as equals, Gilgamesh doesn't hesitate to put them in their place if he feels they're being unruly. Even Saber, the only female Gilgamesh has ever regarded as a worthy rival, isn't exempt from this: after she refuses to become his wife, Gilgamesh decides to kill her without any hesitation.
Besides this, Gilgamesh harbours a deep fascination for humans; he spends much of his time watching and interacting with the average person, and enjoys philosophical discussions with people who interest him, though most of the things he tends to say are designed to either provoke thought -- or fluster. He gives great attention to people who are able to divert him from boredom.
To Gilgamesh, the world should follow the law of survival of the fittest. Past his obstinate, incorrigible self-centered face, however, he does understand how emotionally weak he is, and despises himself for it.
tl;dr GILGAMESH IS A HUGE JACKASS
WORLD: Modern day, though owing to his status as a spiritual being, he can be summoned at any point in time.
OCCUPATION: KING (of Heroes); barring that, surveyor?
SAMPLES
THIRD PERSON:
“You are but the king who reigned over these uncouth ones, Gilgamesh.”
Throwing his feet upon the smooth mahogany of the coffee table, he reclines in his painfully comfortable position on the couch (fully aware that the mere sight of him would cause most to spit in disgust, but he cares not) as he considers these echoing words. A spiteful grin graces the curves of his lips: bitter, haunted, and full of cruel mirth. Yes! It was true. Wealth, prestige, power. All the things men driven by greed are wont to seek, and he was lord of them all. He, who is representative of all worldly things, immortalized in the metaphysical; the untouchable. The irony is too much: he barks out a short laugh and drains the wine glass.
that just means I shall have to enjoy myself more and more and more
Tossing the empty glass irreverently at the wall, he allows himself another smile as it shatters. This one is lacking all the mirth of the first.
FIRST PERSON:
This is the location for the sixth war? It looks absolutely pathetic. I expect I could take this land even without the power of the Grail! If people are as loathsome now as they were before, then I shall take pleasure in cleansing this rotten planet.
There is no point in ruling a world that does not display perfection, and I shall see to it that this one is perfect.
NOTES: Gilgamesh can get mana in one of two ways: sexytiems with a person capable of using magic, or devouring human souls. SO. He probably will not be using his skills very often. 8D...
