So its rush week and that means I kind of have to be social. It really does suck. I need to talk to people about the same stuff over and over and over again

I send you all the empathy I have. Rush was always a mixed blessing for me, and I did it for four years straight at Cornell. First year, I was a rushee. That was grueling. The next three years, I was a sister, equally yet differently grueling.
I would always lose my voice during rush, didn't get enough sleep, but it also was a great time for hanging out with sisters I hadn't seen in a while and catching up with them.
Rush is usually credited when people ask me how I learned to be so good at working a room at a reception or business meeting. It trained me on the art of smalltalk. While it may not always feel sincere, and it sometimes is rather tedious, you do get rather skilled at finding out a lot about someone and getting them to talk about themselves.
So... I hear ya. It can be a real pain, but it also has its benefits.
