Character: Shizuo Heiwajima
Timeline: Episode 17

Personality: Before there's any misunderstanding, Shizuo hates violence. He'd always hated violence, really. Unfortunately as a child, he'd lost whatever was supposed to control the rage and adrenaline in his body. While in situations that'd get any boy upset and want to fight, there was this loss of control that'd just have the extreme violence... happen. However, he hates violence. It just happened, and there was no control over it. Which lead to both he and the things around him to break. Really, the thing that he had wanted from the beginning was to live a peaceful life. It's just that, between his temper and Izaya, it never really had the chance to happen any more. It's just a good thing that, by this point, it was easier to let go of the anger if given an excuse by someone he knows.

To put it simply, while Shizuo's a good man, he has a violently dangerous temper that even he despises. It's given him a goal to become stronger, and hopefully strong enough to control the rage that pours out. Because of all this, Shizuo is also very, very afraid of losing control and messing up again. He's gotten a little better since accepting this part of him, thanks to the 'Saika incident,' but that hasn't changed his management. Unfortunately, there are plenty of people who know how to spark the temper. Not just people like Izaya, who see people as toys, but those that are rotten with their personalities. Other triggers include those that attack first, say annoying things for too long, making excuses or having no basis on their reasoning, and those that have attacked his friends. Despite this deep and instinctual hatred towards Izaya, however, it doesn't spread out to associates of such people. While Shizuo hates Izaya, he gets along with the guy's sisters, Kururi and Mairu. The twins are fans of his brother, and they don't care that he wants to wipe Izaya off the face of the Earth. In fact, he doesn't really lose his temper around them, but instead will move them to a place that makes them less of a hassle.

Another thing, which Shizuo sees about himself, is that he's not good with relationships/society. So he seeks connections with people like Tom, Kasuka, and Shinra. Really he has more connections than just that, but they're less... close. While seeming to be casual and a bit unattached, there are those he respects. Like Celty, whom he's known officially since High School. It's people like these that he could confide in, and not explode when they wonder what's caused him to be in a bad mood. Of course, in those bad moods one might want to keep distance. Even without it, Shizuo will announce that he holds no responsibility and the person that provoked him has no right to complain about whatever happens next. It's a very simple logic, which fits his situation with anger management.

One other thing that should be noted is that Shizuo loves his brother. Not only was Kasuka one of the few that was never scared of him, they stayed connected even when Kasuka's acting career came up. After Kasuka/Yuhei's support and encouragement for Shizuo to keep a job he had given several sets of bartender uniforms. Because it's from his little brother, Shizuo still wears those clothes today, and will attack anyone that ruins those clothes. One of the few times he felt uneasy and worried was also when he thought Kasuka would be disappointed in having lost the bartending job earlier. After sharing a look, Kasuka nodding to him, he instantly had felt better. Bringing up his little brother's name, or stage name, always gets some sort of reaction. When his name is brought up, and someone brings up a resemblance between the two brothers, Shizuo will stop... destroying things. Call Yuhei a douchebag? Get ready for your next flight. Sometimes when Kasuka is working out in public, he'll hang around and be ready to protect his brother against any physical threats. Basically, Shizuo really loves his little brother.

Background: Shizuo grew up just like most other kids; normal boy, with a younger brother (Kasuka.) It was in those childhood years that something snapped. For the first time, it was when his brother had eaten the putting cup Shizuo written his claim on. Just like that, without even realizing what had happened, his temper blew and he lifted the fridge with the intention of using it against his sibling. However, unable to do so, the weight (and the plug pulling out of the outlet and smacking him in the face,) fizzled the blind rage leaving him with injuries from lifting such a heavy object. From that point on, from fellow classmates teasing him, to strangers on the street, he'd lose his mind very easily and end up trying to lift something heavy during the fit to use against the cause of the target. Constantly bones had broken, but the temper hadn't lessened and the seemingly inhuman strength continued.

Eventually, he'd come to accept that there was no way to control either the short temper or the strength. Despite how his body would keep 'breaking,' he'd tossed away whatever kept him trying to stay in control, as well as no longer caring about the injuries he'd always end up getting from these episodes. After all, it only seemed to make him stronger when the healing had gone through (which fascinated his friend, Shinra, the entire time.) During one of the periods where his arm was broken, he met a lady that was taking care of a bakery that was on the way home from school. With concern for his constant injuries, the lady offered both Shizuo and his brother milk, sparking his first crush. One evening, while passing by the bakery, the siblings saw a group of men harrassing the lady in the shop. By the time he came out of the red haze, the shop was completely ruined and all of the men were knocked out at the very least. Even Shizuo knew he went too far that time.

Due to the damage, the rest of the students (save for Shinra,) kept their distance, and the lady in the bakery was also in trouble for the incident by how it looked. At that point, it seemed he had only Kasuka and Shinra that were willing to be around him. Though it seemed even Shinra ended up being taken out of the Heiwajima's lives.

Then high school came around, when he and Shinra were both accepted in to Raira Academy. Unfortunately, this was also when Izaya had come in to the picture. Izaya was a friend of Shinra's from middle school, but something about him spawned Shizuo's hatred for the boy instantly. Almost immediately, Izaya had started setting up situations where large groups of people would go after Shizuo, though that was more unfortunate for them in the end. The fight that first day, and Izaya saying that he was amusing and would be fun, like Shizuo was a toy, started the first time they tried to fight to the death. It was also the first time that someone had injured Shizuo directly, which seemed to only deepen the hatred. It was a fight that ended with Shizuo getting hit by a truck after chasing Izaya through Ikebukuro, and the latter paying off the truck driver for the good job. (Never mind them crossing paths again at Shinra's house to be fixed up.)

It was the first day of a very troublesome high school career. Not just people Shizuo had fought with before, but complete strangers were coming by to fight him. By instinct, this had him hunt down Izaya and run through the entire city very often. By the time he graduated, Shizuo realized that these attempts on his life were thanks to Izaya pulling the strings. Per Shizuo's lack of luck, however, the bastard had already disappeared.

After graduating, he attempted to get several jobs. Actually, getting the jobs wasn't the problem, so much as keeping them. Due to the dangerously short temper, and huge strength, Shizuo never held on to his jobs for very long. Though there seemed to be one job that he was able to keep, as a bartender. One evening his brother, now an actor by the name Yuhei Hanejima, visited the bar with boxes of bartender uniforms encouraging the current employ. Grateful, Shizuo thanked his little brother and said he'd do his best. It seemed that whenever something good happened, his luck had to sour and even it out, though. Soon after the police had shown up to detain him for a crime that he didn't commit! Of course, this was something Izaya had him framed for, and he disappeared from Ikebukuro again. Which was about the time the police realized that Shizuo was innocent and had him released.

His job was as good as gone, but a new one came up right in front of that station. Tom, his senior in middle school by one year, recruited him to help with debt collection. While a job he didn't enjoy in the beginning, it was one that Shizuo had gotten comfortable with. It's been the only one that he was able to lose his temper and still have a job afterward. Over time, Shizuo somehow become well-acquainted with Izaya's sisters, as well as a member of Dollars; a gang that quicky gained notoriety in Ikebukuro, but also had no color associated with them. Not much changed after that, with the routine chaos before showing up in Veles. Save for the fact that Izaya had been showing up in Ikebukuro more often...

Still, things were relatively normal. Including the first Dollars meet, and Izaya sending groups after Shizuo, even where he worked. When the Slasher showed up again, six months after the last report of it, it still seemed to be that way. Things didn't really change. At the same time, it wasn't until Saika showed up again that Shizuo was told that it attacked Celty some time ago. Instantly from finding out he went into a kill mantra, completely pissed that someone had pulled a knife on her. Even when she managed to have him hold off on acting until she learned more about Saika, he was returning to work while repeating 'kill.'

One night when going out with Celty on the 'hunt' for Saika, after beating down some Yellow Scarves (did you know stares have a chance of killing someone?) the sound of a crash was heard. That was when they found a man that seemed to be the slasher, and stopped him from attacking a student. As the Slasher proclaimed his love, Shizuo 'borrowed' the door off of Kyouhei's van and slammed him hard enough to knock him out. Celty took the knife, and for the time being they believed that it was over. Still, Shizuo felt that something wasn't right.

To shake off the feeling, Shizuo went over to Shibuya to kill Izaya. Why? Well, when Izaya asked after Shiuo reached his building, he answered that he was pissed off. That and he refused to believe that Izaya wasn't involved with the Slasher. After lifting out a guard rail (why did that surprise Izaya? Must be how the guard rail kept changing size,) he was about to strike the bastard down before Celty went through the path and interrupted them. Saika was still around, and active. Simple as that he left Izaya and went off with Celty to South Ikebukuro Park, where there were many Saikas in the area. So... He asked all the 'children' Saika why they liked him so much. After their answer about how they loved him for his boundless strength and 'good genes,' he let out a good, happy laugh. Despite his power, there were people that liked him, which went against his fears. It marked the point where he felt it was the time he could embrace who he was and stop the self-loathing. Saika helped him towards self acceptance, but he really hated them. Almost as much as Izaya... So, he gave them one very good fight. During the middle of the fight, something caused all the Saika to stop. Because of it, Shizuo told Celty to check it out as she wasn't really part of the fight. Before leaving she gave him a pair of gloves, pointing out that something like a blade wouldn't be able to cut them. So the fight continued, and while all the children managed to get cuts into him, not only did he push them off but the cuts didn't actually infect him.

They were expecting to have him open up, and they'd get into his mind from his pain and fear. Until they thought that maybe, just maybe, Shizuo didn't actually feel fear. It's when he pushes past them all, gets up the slide and jumps for a drop strike that he acknowledges how wrong they are. Admitting just how afraid he is, of losing control and messing up the lives of people he cared about, but that was that. This was this, and he wasn't going to go down in front of someone that loved him. About to strike into the fight again, everyone's eyes stop glowing red and Shizuo skids to a stop.

No one died. Shizuo was finally able to control his body for the first time.

Abilities/Additional Notes: It should be noted right now that despite what Shizuo is capable of, he's really a normal human. There are supernatural, alien, or technological abilities. Via theory of a Shizuo's friend, Shinra, it's guessed that there's something in his brain that is wired differently. Because of that his strength isn't limited, despite how it was damaging to his body. It's between that and constant exposure of injuries (and Izaya,) that he's able to do what he can. At the same time, it's the reason why he has trouble controlling his anger.

Shizuo possesses an amazing amount of strength. Not just lifting and throwing filled vending machines over a city block's length, but ripping traffic signs out of the ground and spear-throwing them into the sides of buildings. It's not the limit of his strength however, having managed to pick up trucks and throwing those as well. Because this was something he's done since elementary school, at some point all the injuries sustained just healed to a stronger point. It's happened so much, Shizuo's tolerance to pain is so high it's nearly dismissive and the second thought... Unless the action angers him as well. Even then, it's not the pain that registers so much as the action done against him. He's very resistant, even getting hit by trucks and walking away. Watch out if he punches or throws you; clothes may be lost.

Now let's get to the skills that Shizuo has thanks to Izaya. To chase him, he has the parkour skills to keep up a good amount of the time. Shizuo's not as elegant or agile, being the brute force type, but he can keep up speed wise. Thanks to Izaya, he's picked up other skills like catching knives that were thrown at his head with his teeth... And shattering them. That's arguably not the most impressive thing that he's capable of. When it comes to Izaya-honed skills, it's definitely Shizuo's instincts. From the beginning, he hated Izaya. Which made sense, considering Izaya caused most of the 'incidents' during high school, though he didn't find out until graduation. When Izaya's involved with enough things in the city, and is actually hanging around there, the place starts 'smelling like shit.' There's something mental that has Shizuo just know that when something bad happens, it's because of Izaya, or with his involvement. Sometimes he's actually pretty good at finding Izaya from these instincts, or luck... Or because Izaya wants to gloat over something that was done against Shizuo. One of those things.

Sample Journal Post: [Laughter fills the feed, the camera getting just a glimpse of a blonde-haired man at the bottom of the screen. He's looking down, though to what can't be seen as his back is towards the camera. Currently all that can be seen is that it was someone blonde and wearing black slacks and vest and a white shirt. After a few seconds, the laughter dies down.]

Huh?

[Looking around, purple sunglasses and a bowtie are caught before he walks out of view.]

What's going on now... Izaya, you bastard. If you're behind this-

[The feed cuts off just as the sole of a shoe covers the camera completely.]

Sample RP:
This entire rundown city smelled like shit. It was sort of like back in Ikebukuro, but not as strong. At least it wasn't at first. Shizuo was pretty sure that it wasn't because of the state of the buildings, or because of all the people that were around. It made something itch underneath his skin. It was annoying, and under normal circumstances he'd consider going over to Shibuya to kill Izaya-

The man stopped in his tracks, biting down on a cigarette while near some large lake. Ninety-nine point nine times something weird and/or violent happened, Izaya was behind it. This place had more than enough strange events. Which meant- A hand shot off to the side, gripping firmly onto the trunk of a tree that wasn't young, but not too old either. Perhaps one that was about as old as he. With each syllable that came out, the entire structure of the plant shifted.

"Iiii-" Ihe tree was shifted to the left.

"Zaayy-" It shifted to the right as Shizuo's hand dug into wood and through the bark. Cracking and groaning came from the ground.

"Aaa!" A good amount of the base roots were pulled up. As Shizuo stormed off, the tree tilted and pulled in the same direction until he let go; leaving the timber as it was. With each step, his anger brought up a mantra spoken with each step. "Kill. Kill. Kill. Kill..."
