So Momma managed to talk Dad down a bit. She called me last night to try to get me to come home. After some discussion, we negotiated and came to a better solution. I'm back at home after only one day, but I still feel like I don't belong here. I still plan on not seeing my father except for on holidays

Because they're right there. Because they're watching every step of every day, and not seeing how it comes together. When you were down here, they got to see the cohesive whole, the end-all-be-all, without the insignificant details that make your life your life and not the product of your efforts.

Compare it to seeing someone every day, and their hair getting longer bit by bit, or seeing someone after six months. There's no nice end product when you live with someone. Anyone gets impatient watching the hair inch along. Seeing the brand-new hair length after six months, though, makes people go, "Yeah! That was totally worth it."
