How Frequently Are You Ill? or, What The Fuck Is Wrong With People?

This is really starting to fucking piss me off. There are certain members of  my group of female friends who are always getting ill. I mean a minimum - a minimum - of 8 times a year. WTF is up with that? Who has immune systems so weak that they succumb to some infection or another that frequently? Granted, they all smoke (cigarettes) a lot, but it' ( Read more... )

I smoke all the time and my whole family catches colds more than I do. I think there's a bit of a hypochondriac culture happening nowadays, plus people are eating more fast food and no amount of "LOW TRANSFAT" advertisements can change the fact that fast food is typically deep-fried in the same oil over and over again before it's changed.

Too many carbs, too much fatty meat, too few veggies...all of these things are suspect. If I eat too much fast food I notice a drop in my energy and ability to fight off viruses and infections; though sinus infections typically get me before anything else.

I don't know your friends but from the sound of it, they're victims of either poor diet choices or lazy hermit syndrome that they can push off on imaginary illnesses.

I have a friend that had bifocals by the time she was a senior in highschool and she could still see better than I could. All of these "new" disorders and illnesses that are popping up have half the population convinced they're fucking terminal, too.

That's my opinion anyway.

A few questions anonymous August 27 2008, 14:58:10 UTC
Hi! Regards from Spain; I found out this journal by reading an Oxford university forum (actually it was another journal, about Harris Manchester College) and I have a few questions for you, if you have a little time for me :) :

-Is it possible to apply with a computer engineer degree(3 years) got from the spanish equivalent of Open University? I mean, I would have to do some A-level exams, access course for a year or something similar? If not, do they require an excellent academic expedient?

-Is it possible living outside the college (rent an apartment or similar)from the first year?

-Is it 34 too late to apply? I mean I know there's no age restrinctions at HMC but...

-Are there mature students in other colleges? About 35 years old...

Thanks!

PS. you have a bloody great sense of humour :)

I need more LJ friends, added you because you met the minimum cuss entry requirements. Totally feel you on the sick chicks BTW - I feel like I have an immune system of steel.

Cheers!
SH.
