A/N: Drabble, four of thirty.
Onew sat, swathed in blankets and furs, on a rocky outcrop overlooking the dips of deep snow-covered valleys and cliffs. Below him, the mountain was steep. He felt like an eagle overlooking his wintry crystal domain.
His breath made warm plumes, disturbing the light snowflakes falling around him. He pulled a fur closer around his head and shoulders so that only his face was peeking out.
Sometimes the world seemed much too bright. Mornings like this made it difficult for him to believe how lucky he was, to be born in this time, to know those people, to have these things.
Across the gorge, three bighorn sheep were picking their way across the cliff face. The dangerous terrain made them no less graceful.
A soft bump on his shoulder startled him out of his thoughts.
“Mind if I join you?” asked Taemin, already handing him one of the steaming drinks in his mittened hands.
“Of course not,” replied Onew.
Taemin was always there for him when his thoughts were taking him too deep. The boy settled in next to him. Onew offered him a blanket from the pile, which Taemin gratefully accepted.
“I’m glad we came here,” said Taemin. Onew knew he didn’t mean this particular rock, or the forest, or to the snow.
Onew shook off the layer of snow which had built up on him.
“Me too. I’m glad you came with me.”
