VARIATION

Arthur/Merlin
I‘d love to see a modern Dollhouse!Au with those two. Just take them and throw them into the mix. There are so many possibilities ;D

-Merlin could be the genius that operates the chair and Arthur is his favorite doll
- Arthur runs the Dollhouse because it is part of Uther‘s business and doll!Merlin takes up all of his attention
-Merlin and Arthur are both dolls and fall in love
-One is a doll and the other is a handler
...

I just really want to see them in the dysfunctional setting that is Dollhouse. Bonus but not necessary for UST and sexy times.

Filling this for the SummerPornathon
Warning: Essentially Mindwipe, as per the crossover show's canon, and suggestion of character death. It seems it's impossible to write for Dollhouse without it being an emotional fill.

I know it's not quite the 'favorite doll' bit, but I hope the OP likes it anyway. :3

Reprogram Me

He looks just like him, was Merlin’s first thought when they led in the new recruit. They were of a height with each other, Merlin was maybe an inch shorter, if that, and the guy’s hair was spun gold, his eyes almost the perfect shade of blue. If he didn’t look too hard he’d feel like he was looking at a ghost. The man even moved the same: The confident, graceful movements of a soldier who is intimately aware of his own body ( ... )

“I think you’ll like this one.” He leaned over to kiss Arthur. It wasn’t quite the same, but after years of stolen moments with many different Dolls, he learned to get used to it ( ... )

ASÖKJFIDNASÖKDJN! Oh Merlin, I just wanna wrap you in my arms and mend your broken heart. And Arthur, how must it feel to see your lover be in pain like that and having to leave him again and again and again.

This had me grinning from ear to ear not because it's funny, it's much to heartbrakingly bittersweet for that, but becaust you made my day by filling this prompt with something beautiful.

Thanks :)

Re: Designing Arthur (part 6/?) brunettepet February 17 2013, 14:14:48 UTC
Merlin's obsessive dedication to replicating his Arthur seems doomed to failure because how can he know the inner workings of even a person he knew as well as Arthur? I'm interested to see if he ever deems his program good enough or if he marks this experiment a failure and moves on.

I appologize for not putting the warning up the first time, I honestly hadn't remembered that mindwipe needed a warning. (Which probably says something about where MY head is ( ... )

It took months of him showing off in the right places, but finally he was given an offer to join. He played dumb and allowed them to woo him over to their side. He knew that he would be given more freedoms if they thought they had to work to keep him there than if he appeared eager at the prospect.

After the eventual acceptance of the position, there was the training. The endless training which Merlin slogged through during the day while every night was spent dreaming about seeing Arthur again. Talking to him, kissing him, touching him. It was those dreams that stopped Merlin from getting so frustrated during the day.

When it was finally time for him to program his first personality, it took all his will not to program Arthur. He knew that he would have to show off his efforts and be judged and he did not know if his heart could handle being judged on Arthur ( ... )

Slowly, but surely, Merlin gained a reputation for creating believable minds to place inside the dolls. It took over a year, but he eventually managed to get himself into a place of trust inside the company. He was given his own, personal access to the software without the constant watchers and was finally able to begin his work on what would be his greatest mind: Arthur ( ... )

When Arthur opened his eyes for the first time and recognized him, Merlin was beside himself with joy. It was really Arthur! It was finally him! Merlin reached over and grabbed him, hugging him as hard as he could. He then kissed him with the force of all the pent up emotions that had been building for ages inside Merlin. When he finally came up for breath, he was inches away from Arthur’s eyes and looked right into them ( ... )

The entire next week, Merlin was consumed by these thoughts. He simply could not understand how things had gotten to be this way. He had done his best work on Arthur. He had spent much more time than was usual on him and it still turned out this way. Had he missed something?

He tirelessly went back over all the work he had done for Arthur. Painstakingly working his way through each piece of information he had included in Arthur’s make-up. It appeared complete, but it wasn’t. He knew it wasn’t. He had seen the product that came from this program, and it was not right.

Merlin then went through his memories of Arthur again, he picked over them with a fine-toothed comb. He made sure that absolutely everything he could remember about Arthur’s life was in place in the program. It was. He had done this before. Many times. He had double and triple checked that it was in place over and over again before he had even tried to use Arthur.
