((*ahem* OP, I'm not sure if this is exactly what you're looking for, as I went for a Morgana POV, which skimped on the emotional farewells. But, here's a fill, for you:))

She finds him in the back room - not even a second bedroom, really, just a convenient place to store all the things she never uses and can’t bear to throw out - staring at his phone, shaking.

“Merlin?” Her throat constricts as his glazed eyes focus on her. “Was that Arthur? Where -” She’s cut off by the horrifying noise that claws its way from her brother-in-law’s throat, and she’s at his side in a blink.

“He - He called to,” Merlin stops, shakes his head as the first tears fall, “He wanted to say goodbye. Said that - that the plane - they were - were going down, they were crashing. Oh god,” and he’s hysterical now, tears and snot unheeded on his face, “Oh god, Morgana, he crashedMorgana stifles her initial panic, clenches her jaw at the first surge of pain, fear. It’s sometime after lunch the following day when the phone rings. Lance answers; Morgana hears the low timbre of his voice, but can’t make out the words. She and Merlin are still on the settee - or rather, back on it, after Lance and Gwen finally bullied them into changing into sweatpants and having some tea. Morgana’s got her arms back around Merlin’s shoulders, and they’re alternately dozing, crying, and reminiscing, and Morgana feels like they’ve somehow skipped straight to the wake, wonders distantly whether her therapist would approve

LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS!!! And Heck yeah, I headed off for part 2!!! Thank you Author!anon for breaking Merlin & me, but then giving everyone a happy ending!!!

Yes, i love happy ending! And i especially like the background story of their past (that they grow up together) :D

Merlin and Morgana's devastation was beautifully described and so was their elation in the wake of that second telephone call. There's such relief in seeing Arthur, battered but wonderfully alive.

Thank you, I read, the other answer to this prompt before this and I was really emotional... and my beloved mother looked at me as if I was crazy... and then you wrote this... and you rock, you totally rock!!!

Loved this ending.. now you just have to give us an Arthur woke up and kissed Merlin senseless for me to be completely happy ;).

OMG OMG OMG THAAAANK YOU!!! This was amazing, and I love that you tried it from Morgana's POV- the line about Arthur getting her a killer present made me tear up!! And it was just so heartbreaking- and I'm glad you did a happy ending. Even though it's unlikely he would have lived, a happy ending is kind of what I was hoping for ^^
