Absolute Magnitude. Part 1. anonymous August 31 2010, 05:56:13 UTC
Arthur gets into Harvard because he’s a Pendragon and that’s just what Pendrgaon’s do. They get into the best schools, they graduate with honors, and then they go into the job market and make loads and loads of money. It’s like the American Dream. The real American Dream, where it’s easy to make something of yourself when you’ve been prepped for it since birth ( ... )

Arthur sits up suddenly, forcing Gwen to move off of his chest. His feet are dangling over the end of his queen sized bed so he kicks his shoes off and lets them slam against the hardwood floor before he moves to sit cross-legged ( ... )

Arthur's roommate is already unpacked by the time Gwen and Arthur arrive from New York. His name is Lance and he plans on double majoring in biochemistry and religious studies because he wants to be a doctor, but also he is very interested in the spiritual aspects of human culture. He also volunteers at the animal shelter in his spare time. To top it all off her has an English accent ( ... )

Arthur adjusts quicker than he thought he would to Harvard. The first semester is work of course, he pulls his fair share of all-nighters, but it’s not going to kill him. He gets top marks in his classes and informs his father (who has been mostly in Germany on business) through curt emails about his grades. After all, Uther is paying his tuition. The winter holiday is more or less boring and drab affair, but he spends it back home so he gets to spend lots of time with Gwen. They go out star gazing on the winter solstice which is pretty much a staple between them and exchange gifts. Lance ends up staying with Gwen for the last week of vacation, which messes with the dynamic a bit, but Arthur is glad to see her happy. Even if it means he spends a week with nothing to do at home but talk to his father and play video games ( ... )

Excellent start. I loved the picture you painted of Merlin saving indie girl from getting a ball in the face and Arthur glancing toward him in the stands and overshooting ball after ball.

And though he feels like an idiot when he does it, Arthur has begun to scour over the faces of the students in his lectures looking for hipster glasses and a red scarf. It’s almost like Where’s Waldo. Much to his surprise, he finds it in his history lecture and plops down next to him; he acts like he doesn’t recognize him.

It isn’t until lecture is over that he glances over at him and confides, “I’m terrible at this.” It’s a total lie. Arthur scored a five on his AP US History exam. Arthur isn’t terrible at anything, except maybe trusting people and there’s no midterm for that. “I’m a business and astronomy double major. Are you any good ( ... )

Absolute Magnitude. Part 6. anonymous September 22 2010, 20:28:42 UTC
Arthur arrives at the field to find out practice is cancelled because half the team has food poisoning; he doesn’t bother changing into his uniform, but he really doesn’t know what to do with himself so he wanders back to his dorm. When he finds it empty he flops down on to his bed and stares up at the ceiling. He has a poster taped up there, one he bought at space camp when he was a kid, of the different types of stars. White dwarf stars have always been his favorite, but pressed for a reason he’d be unable to give a good one ( ... )
