Arthur and Gwen are already married when she discovers Arthur and Merlin's feelings for one another. She gives them her blessing and goes off to be queenlike in her wing of the castle.
The problem? Arthur still loves Gwen, but is convinced that she's disgusted by what he and Merlin get up to. Merlin feels like he's betrayed his best friend. Gwen still loves Arthur, but is convinced that she was his second choice, and that half of his risking so much to marry her was that he knew she wouldn't put Merlin out. And she's got no one to talk to about it, because the only person she could confide in is off shagging her husband.
After the first big feast post-A/M, where Arthur and Gwen can barely look at one another, Merlin takes matters into his own hands and begins a campaign to bring Gwen into their bed and back into their lives. I'd like it if Gwen weren't exactly easy to convince, but that's up to you. I just need angst leading to happy threesome times.
