Arthur/Merlin, ModernMagic!AU

Arthur and Merlin don't get along, despite having many mutual friends. However, they stumble across (due to some magical reason, up to author) a vision of the future in which they are living in disgustingly harmonial domestic bliss with each other. After witnessing the vision, they are both stunned and horrified, and don't know how to react to each other. All their following interactions at places of mutual friends are awkward and stilted, but they start discreetly watching each other and noticing each other's attractive qualities.

I love this set up and the bits of back story in this and how completely horrified the two men are at the future they've seen unfold. Arthur's conviction that he;s suffering from a terrible case of Stockholm Syndrome for Merlin in the future had me laughing. I'm looking forward to seeing how these two get from Not!Friends to something more.

Oh! I'm totally intrigued! Im looking forward to following Merlin & Arthur on their 5 year journey to the future!!! Great start drawing the reader in and leaving us wanting for more!

OP here! Thank you, anon author, for such a lovely, lovely start!! Having been away from the computer the last couple days, your fills were a wonderful discovery :). Arthur's tone is perfect, and his horrified reaction to his future (which I thought was particularly sweet and adorable, btw) made me giggle. I look forward to the rest, and will be checking this thread with stalkerish frequency. <3

Arthur goes into the kitchen at a boring part of the game, more than a bit tipsy after drinking four of the six ciders in his six-pack (the other two having gone to Merlin and Leon, respectively), and Merlin follows him there under a minute later. He nearly drops the glass of water he’s just poured when he turns around to find Merlin standing closer to him than he ever has (in reality, at least). “We need to talk about this,” Merlin says with the sort of earnest determination that can only come from being a cheap date who Morgana has been plying with wine all evening. She refuses to give any to Gwaine on principle, but Merlin she coddles and boozes up like he’s some sort of alcoholic lapdog ( ... )

This story is brilliant beyond measure. The tension, the disgust, and surprisingly, they are in this horror together, so have become unthinking allies in the war against becoming allies. *grin* Elyan was lovely in this - I loved his calm amusement. I love seeing his character being used more and given significant roles! Giggle - "finally fucked" as if they've all been just waiting for it to happen, given the tension and antagonism already present between the two. I love that for Merlin & Arthur, the idea of having already fucked, is a much lesser evil than what they're facing - never mind that the future they've seen probably included a large degree of ongoing fucking. Silly boys.

You are playing out the tension so perfectly. Can't wait for more!!!

Banding together to fix this future debacle is a step in the right direction. The operative word being together. It's priceless that they're both completely horrified that this might come true. They don't stand a chance. It's delightful, anon.
