Arthur/Merlin, Girl!Merlin, Canon,
Non-Con, Preg.

As Uther wastes away in the aftermath of Morgana's betrayal, Arthur is left to take care of a kingdom that stands on shaky ground. When the annual tournament arrives, Arthur is all too eager to prove that Camelot remains strong despite everything. When Merlin tries to warn him that something isn't quite right with one of his opponents, Arthur ignores her as he always does.

Now, Arthur has to live with the fact that his ego, and his pride cost Merlin dearly. That his own stubborness, and arrogance resulted in Merlin being beaten half to death, and defiled. How will he cope with this? Can Merlin recover from this one? How will the knights of the round table react? And more importantly what's going to happen when, and after they all find out that Merlin will give birth to the child of her rapist?

Merlin had always been so proud of Arthur. Even if he was a clotpole and a prat at times, she had always been so very proud of him. He fought for what he believed in, and when Uther was being unreasonable, he tried to make the king see sense. Of course, sometimes the loyalty that he felt towards his father led him to do things that made Merlin want to punch him, but she firmly believed that Prince Arthur was a good person. This was why watching him now caused her so much pain. Uther's devastation after Morgana's betrayal had not lessened as Gaius had said it might. It seemed rather the opposite, as every day the King retreated further into himself. When Arthur had become king in almost everything but name, Merlin hopes had never been higher. She had been sure that he would lead Camelot out of the dark days of Uther's rule, and use his empathy and innate sense of justness to right the wrongs that his father had carried out ( ... )

Merlin pushed the door open and stopped where she stood, with her mouth open in a small o of horror. Inside, a burly man wearing a green tunic had a young girl pressed up against the wall. She was trying to call out in terror, but the man smothered her cries, pressing a dirty hand over her mouth. Terrified, the girl reached out and tried to grab the man's hair, which was hanging in his face, but he swatted her hand away. In punishment for her resistance, the man smacked her across the face with full force, sending her head slamming back into the wall ( ... )

When Gaius was finally asleep, Merlin crept from her room, with all her things packed into a bag. On the table she left a note for Gaius, and a note for Gwen before glancing back forlornly at the familiar room. She inhaled its scent for the last time and left ( ... )

Merlin was taking absolutely forever and Arthur was getting annoyed. It wasn't that hard to collect a few pieces of armor. It was five minutes until the fight started. Exasperated, Arthur grabbed his sword and went to look for Merlin. She had such a nasty habit of disappearing at the most inopportune moments, and then suddenly reappearing, acting as though she had never been gone. She's probably hiding in there with my armor so that I can't fight, Arthur thought, getting annoyed at her. He'd be damned if he let himself appear a weak ruler because of a stupid suspicion that Merlin had. He appreciated that she wanted him to be safe, he thought that sometimes, she didn't completely understand what he, as a ruler, needed to do. Other times, however, she was the best counsel that he could ever ask for, and he was eternally grateful. He opened the door to the armory and froze ( ... )

This is a devastating beginning. Even though suitably warned (Thank you), the rape scenes and the aftermath turned my stomach. Your version of Merlin is strong, practical, funny and resourceful, but she is overpowered in a moment of surprise and inability to gather her magic. Her attack is strongly reminiscent of attacks involving paralysing drugs, where the victim is unable to move to even try to get away. This is going to be very hard for Merlin to come to terms with, having always believed that her magic would be enough to protect her.

This was very emotional and frightening to read. But so beautifully done, the characters you have set up are sympathetic and compelling. Already I am hurting not only for Merlin's wounds, both physical and emotional, but even more for the damage this will do to the trust between them, to their relationship.

You have set up the hurt very skillfully, author, but please please bring on the comfort! I'm putting my heart into your hands.
