Arthur/Merlin. Merlin spells himself to be the perfect servant, and he loses his whole personality in the process. (I'm hoping also for some memory loss, like forgetting everything about his magic and any magic-related event than happened). Kudos for some Arthur emotional-angst when he realizes Merlin did it for him and it's his fault.

“Trying to sneak off for the night, were you?” the Prince continued, ignorant to Merlin’s inner conflict. “Tell me, Merlin, what on earth could possibly be so important that you thought you were free to run off as you please?”

“I didn’t- I thought-” Merlin fumbled over his words, unused to having to explain himself so quickly, so desperately. The Prince didn’t seem to have the patience for it - like Arthur ever did, Merlin thought… but then again, he didn’t need to have patience for a servant. The Prince could act however he wanted towards Merlin, and Merlin had no right to complain. No right at all. And yet…

“Out with it, Merlin. I haven’t got all night.”

“I thought you wouldn’t want me here, sire. Forgive me.”

The Prince leaned back into his seat heavily, eyebrows up so high they disappeared into his hairline. His hair was getting rather long, Merlin noticed; he would have to cut it soon, maybe tomorrow, maybe-

“Forgive you?” the Prince repeated, sounding incredulous, surprised. Merlin couldn’t imagine why

This is turning out really good! That feeling on the back of his head, the confusion for both Merlin and Arthur...

This is wonderful, Anon, and it keeps getting better and better! the slow change of Merlin's personality is just perfect, how he is draining himself with work and even forsaking his own health and becoming less and less Merlin ia just amazing. Oh, and Arthur!! first being confussed, then hurt and then angry!! this is exactly how he would reackt!

I'm dying to read more!!

This is incredibly good! I love the way you write the changes in Merlin's behaviour and way of thinking. The little voice whispering at the back of his mind that everything is wrong while he can't really hear it makes it heartbreaking.
I hope there will be more soon!

New Year’s Eve (and some alcohol-related mishaps, lol D:) kept this part from getting up sooner, but from here on out I’m going to really try and makes updates less than two or three days apart /crossing fingers. At least from here we’re actually getting a hint of plot, woo! Hope everyone has had a happy 2011 so far :)

After being so thoroughly ordered out of the Prince’s room, Merlin made his way to the kitchens. The scullery boy Erik wouldn’t begin working until after the King’s feast, when dishes needed washing and the midnight process of cleaning the giant kitchens began, but Merlin was sure there was someone who would require his help - and indeed there was
