"Yeah, um, about that Mum," he stammered out, glad that no one else was in line for the booth. "I think, um. That. Well, I'm more likely to have a boyfriend. If you know what I mean." His voice got quieter and quieter as he spoke, and by the time he was done it was a near whisper.

"Oh." His mother had said, frowning a bit, and Ashley felt like he was going to die.

"It'll have to be a nice Catholic boy, then. Scottish, too, if you can help it."

Ashley nodded and said he would keep it in mind.

The third person, or people, really, to find out that Ashley liked other blokes hadn't even been told by Ashley at all. In fact, it had meant to be a hurtful, spite-filled rumor. It just so happened that they were right.POOF!There it was, in big, angry letters, scribbled across his locker. Ashley frowned a bit, but didn't let anything else cross his face. The assholes who did this may still be watching and Ashley didn't want to give them the satisfaction ( ... )

But then, he'd met Stuart, who'd somehow endeared himself to Ashley, and so Ashley figured he ought to know about that part of Ashley, even if Ashley didn't want to fuck him. Thus making him the fourth person Ashley came out to.They'd been sitting at an all-hours diner at two in the morning, eating breakfast-for-dinner. They'd just gotten off their first double shift, and they were fuckin' beat ( ... )

anon is glad that you liked it! i'm glad that someone wanted gen, because i don't ship ashley/stuart/rachid, so i was sad that i might not have anything to fill (besides ashley/omc and game of thrones x-overs); but then your prompt popped up and i seized the chance!

Well, I don't ship Ash/Stuart also if they could be cute, mostly because I like their relationship as friends. And I don't really ship Rachid/Ash also if I like it as a pairing.

The Stuart+Ashley bit is my favorite, but the whole thing is delightful, including Ashley and his mum. I didn't think, from the show, it was clear whether she knows or not ... maybe she does and was trying to set him up with Dan! Or maybe she doesn't. IDK.

Anyway, lovely fic is lovely.

I feel lime she does know. Mostly because he made that joke about confessions only working when you promise not to commit the sin again. It seemed like an in-joke re: his homosexuality. Plus, Ashley's not in the closet and it's 2011, pretty sure his mum would know he was gay.

There's in the closet to your friends and there's in the closet to your Catholic mom and those can be quite different things, regardless of year. I'm not saying Catholics are de facto intolerant. I'm saying have know folks who aren't out to their Catholic families ... even if said family would be/is incredibly supportive, just because of lingering hang-ups, issues, whatever.

That being said, I hope he is, and I hope she just wants him to be happy (which is what it seems like).

This is way too much thought for a kinkmeme.
