This past weekend, and yesterday, were jam-packed for me, and I had an overall great time during it all.
On Saturday, I had my birthday party, and I was looking forward to getting completely smashed and being debaucherous. Unfortunately, it didn't quite turn out that way. I had invited several folks, and in the end, only four showed up.
The first to arrive was Lindsay, then Patty Street, and lastly, Sam and Allana. My dad had made three pounds of tacos, and we all (except Patty) devoured up plenty of them. I'd bought a game called "Imaginiff.." from Wal-Mart a few weeks ago, and the five of us partook in that, which was a lot a fun. Before the game was over, we took a small break in order to eat some of the delicious Butterfinger Blizzard Cake that Lindsay'd bought for my Quarter-Century Celebration.
When the game was over (and I won), Patty went home, and Lindsay picked her kids up from her mom's, and came back. My dad had been gone, but had shown up while Lindsay was out. Lindsay, Sam, Allana and I started playing Apples to Apples, which they just happened to have in their car. I can't remember who won that one... it was Sam or Allana. Once it was finished, they, Lindsay and the chittlins went home.
Even though it wasn't a loud banger, I still enjoyed myself with the friends who did take the time to show up. So thanks to you guys, because without you, I probably would have sliced my wrists open :)
The next day, I got up and made an attempt to pretty myself up, and headed over to Vincennes. My first stop was to pick up the baby shower cake for Lindsay and Tommy's baby shower.
After that, I headed out to Ouabache (pronounced Wabash) Trails to get started on setting up our reserved shelter. It took a bit, but I found it! On my third stop, I finally saw this:
Ginger Shidler. You like that, my red-headed lovers?
Shortly after I'd arrived and done what I could, Lindsay, Tommy and the girls showed up. Not too mention a lovely dent in the side of their car! It seems some doofus backed into them at the gas station. What a way to start the day of your baby shower! Everyone was unharmed, and we were determined to have a lovely celebration!
I'm not sure who showed up when, but once Dani Leg and her mama Lisa, showed up, things started picking up for us b/c they'd brought more decorations with them. The Leg and I decorated the shelter, and some surrounding trees. Here are a few shots of our awesome decorating skills:
There are more photos of that with Dani, so when she posts them, I'll probably snatch 'em up for my album. They're lovely!
Speaking of the flame-haired lady, she was especially amused by the sign above the shelter:
She wanted to take "The Ginger House" sign and put it over her front door at home, and the "You start a fire, you put it out" over her bed. But alas, no vandalism took place that day!
Jeremy, Dani H. and her son Wyatt, some of Tommy's Taco Bell peeps, Mama Z and her man Rick, Lindsay's friend Jenna and her two chittlins, Sam and Alanna, and about five of Tommy's relatives made appearances throughout the get together.
Sam and I filled up water balloons for the alleged Water Balloon toss that was to take place later in the afternoon. He and Alanna left around 3:30 because she had to work at four. Soon after, Jeremy, the cook for the shindig, had grilled out hot dogs and hamburgers! It was all so delicious! After awhile, we got rowdy and began having a sort of fun/vengeful water balloon battle. The supposed "Water Balloon Toss" only happened between myself and Dani H, and each time we played, she lost. WORK!
The kids had a great time playing on the playground equipment (and I found myself going down a slide or two), and the whole thing turned out pretty swimmingly! Here are some random pics to savor:
Me and La La. Look how scruffy I am here! I shaved on Tuesday, loves. Mama Z hugged me before leaving and thanked me for throwing the shower :) Aw, how sweet!
I'm not sure what Jeremy's doing here, but it's very possible he's threatening Dani with cold water LoL
Me with Dani H.
Me and The Leg, who I saved a piece of Blizzard Cake for on Saturday night, but ended up eating Sunday morning when she never showed up... hahaha...
Haley trying to cheese it up while being deterred by the sun in her face.
Dani-Squared.
And that was Sunday in a nutshell!
Yesterday (Tuesday), I drove down to Evansville to meet my mom for lunch in celebration of my birth and Mother's Day. I got her a picture frame and clock, both in her favorite color of red, and a bottle of Lucky No. 6, which she called me later in the day to tell me how much she loved it. Yeah, Yeah.
Anyway, we met up at this Chinese restaurant called Yen-Ching, which I'd never been to (probably because it's not buffet style), and was excellent, not to mention inexpensive. The two of us together was under $12. I paid the tab while mom was taking a wee break, and she passed me a $20 for gas as thanks. Haha.
We then made our way to Coconut's for a little bit of light shopping. The pickings were slim, but I did walk out of there with the 2-disc special edition of "Dogma" for $11.99, and fifty blank CDs on sale for $3.99. Once finished here, my mom headed back home, and I made my way over to Joe's Records, where I picked up three awesome treasures:
C+C Music Factory - "Gonna Make You Sweat" CD for ninety-nine cents! I had the cassette of this as a kid, but never really could bring myself to get the CD, despite digging the first four tunes (I remember none of the others). So when I saw it marked at less than a dollar, I was sold.
Madonna "Like A Prayer" maxi-single vinyl and Samantha Fox "Naughty Girls (Need Love Too)" vinyl. Both great finds! I was totally stoked to find them both, especially Samantha Fox! I also found Madonna vinyl for "Express Yourself" and "Open Your Heart," and Blondie's "Rapture," but wasn't too gung-ho about 'em, so I left them in the bins.
After leaving there, I went to Best Buy and finally, after several years of flirting with the idea, picked up the complete "Carmen Electra's Aerobic Striptease" box set. Oh yeah! My next stop was Burlington Coat Factory, where I bought a pair of black corduroy pants to wear to work. The other pair of blank pants I routinely wear are too big for me, so I needed to downsize. I bought a size forty-six pants, which I've not done in years! Whoo-hoo! And they were only $12.99, which was an added bonus.
Once all this was wrapped up, I headed home. I got some gas, and stopped in at Record Cellar to pick up the special edition of Madonna's new album "Hard Candy." The packaging in brilliant, and I love the huge booklet, but other than that, it's pretty chintzy. Two crappy remixes of "4 Minutes," and a bag of those white-and-red striped mints that I absolutely loathe. Whatever Madonna, you got me again!
And that's the 411 on my lately. Hope you're all well. I'm soon off for a five-day (at the very minimum) stretch of work, so I'd better get out of here and get mah hurr did! Have a nice evening!
Cheers and love,
Ricky
